Hi,
I have had difficulty locating OEM hatchback gas struts for my 89 sx seca. Toyota wants $300 each! Tried Repco, Supercheap and Autoone; they all claim their AE92 struts wont fit the SX model.
Anyone with any suggestions as to what will work.
Regards....

Have you thought about getting the struts you currently have re-gassed?
You can get them refurbished, check the yellowpages.
Cheers

I had the same problem some time ago. I went to Jap World at St Peters and got a pair from a wrecked Seca CSi for $40. Just make sure they give the the Seca Liftback struts and not Corolla hatchback struts cox they wont fit and are smaller.
How heavy is the hatch door eh? you got a fence pailing to hold the thing up when it's open?

One of the struts seems o.k. so sometimes the hatch stays up. It is heavy though, and i recon the first time it falls on my head ill end up 5cm shorter!
I bought a small spring loaded clip arm from Supercheap that locks into place then the strut is fully extended, and thus it can fall down.

I have this same problem with my seca. Both my struts need regassing or new ones. I know re-gassing is about $80 so if I can pick up new ones from a wrecker for cheaper then I will do that. My boot hatch has fallen on my head several times and it tends to hurt a little espcially when its the little locking device. I now carry a wooden broom handle thing to hold it up everytime I want to get something out of the boot.
