Help! Just last night I noticed that my turbo on my 7mgte is boosting to around 7 or 8 and then dropping back down to 5 to 7 or so. The boost was set on 10. Is this bad? What does it mean?

Apparently my blow-off valve had a slight leak, so they turned it around (so the pressure would force the valve shut). Would this be what is causing it?

I havent been driving the car hard at all. In fact, I have been driving very carfully.

Also, it is stock standard. No computer or anything.

Why didnt they replace the BOV if it was leaking?

The bosch one from most auto shops seems to do the trick because the 7M's are known for leaking BOV's.

The bosch one is cheap ($30 ish?)and will fix the leak. I couldnt tell you if this was the boost pressure drop issue although it sounds associated, but its bleeding alot of air!

Yeah the no replacement was my fault. Sad It was in for a service as was costing me $800 as it was. Didnt have the money for a replacement.

So basically what you are saying is that it sounds like a leaking air problem. I thought it was that, but wasnt sure.

Are BOV easy to put in yourself, or would it be better to get them to do it??? Is it better to get a good one, than a cheap one? What is the difference between them?

Thanks for the help!

I'm sure he will too. Very Happy Problem is, we are both new to turbo motors, so a lot of what we do is, "well, lets try this". Very Happy

Yep, plumback. The Bosch units aren't that flash if you're trying to run decent amounts of boost though, ie they leak.
