Head gasket for 1ggte Tue, 16 September 2003 02:46 Go to next message
I am trying to source a head gasket for a 1ggte. Got a price from Toyota for a VRS kit - over $400 retail. I would not like to pay a real lot more than that for a whole motor including turbos.

Has anyone latched onto a supply of these? If so I would be real interested to know where.

If you do go for a Ridgecrest copper gasket, DO NOT consider using it without o-ringing the head. Despite the fact that they tell you its ok to use without o-rings, it doesnt work. I had the head surface ground (as they recommended) to ensure a true surface, and it still blew out to the water jackets in 6 places within 5 minutes of idling from first start Mad

If you were to go for the copper head gasket as TE72_Turbo said it is a good idea to get the block o-ringed. I got my block o-ringed for under $100 for a 6 cyc. Or could get the head oringed. Not sure if you need to strip either the head or block down eg pistons out etc, I dont think you would have to tho. Goood luck & let us kno which way your going.

seriously spend the extra $ do it properly, get a toyota gasket. Personal experiences have taught me to use genuine stuff only! O-ringing the head and block will cost you enough to make up for the extra head gasket.

individual parts for the damn things never are Sad

its an imported motor, so dont expect to see any listing in regular catalogues - call either of the above two co.s and see what you can get
