Hey
Im looking at the possibility of a 2tgeu conversion into my T-18 using pretty much everything needed from a te71... tank, wiring, computer and all that.. i dont think the front brakes are any different but for some reason the donor car is missing the diskbrake rear end (maybe it never even had one)
i was just wondering, if anyone knows acording to victorian laws how hard it will be to get registered?
Thanks,
Phill

T-18's had 3T? so 2T is decrease in capacity, AND you are going to a fuel injected motor???
man the authorities are gonna love you
shouldn't be hard at all, even in NSW!!!
call an enginer in the morning.. you'll prolly have to have it certified, unless it was an option??
Good luck

T-18's are TE-72's ????(please forgive my ignorance of new cars)
i think you have a pretty strong case if you say that the TE-71 came with XXX and since the TE-72 is just a different body style, but essentially the same car, then it is pretty much just 'updating' the engine to a more modern motor that came in the same car!!
the only reason i thought maybe a cert was for the high pressure fuel lines, and even then, since it's all stock, it'd be dead easy..
check with your RTA equiv, then contact a couple of engineers and ask them if it is absolutely necessary to have it certified... it might make it easier if you get pulled over tho..
but then again, you lucky buggers don't have yearly inspections
should be easy, but get something in writing from your RTA first, so you have something to fall back on..

I know in Tasmania you can do this conversion without any engineering certificate or anything. You only need to change the engine number with transport. And maybe have a $20 inspection to verify the new engine number and general roadworthy of the change. Nothing special. I know with my KE35, and can fit any Toyota engine up to 1600cc. Only need better shocks and front brakes of a cirtain diameter (not very big).
If it was me, I would only change the engine number on your rego. Tell them its basicaly the same engine (which it is).
