Need 1jz front mounted sump. What are my options? Wed, 17 September 2003 03:31 Go to next message
Hi
I badly need a front sump for a 1jz gte, I know these are quite hard to find so i was wondering what options I had and what i should pay.

I'll have a mid sump, can i get it modified at any sort of good price?. Or is there a place i could get one cheaply or something?

Thanks for any input.. it will be greatly appreciated

Johal

As far as I know, you're only options are JZX81 and JZX90 Chaser sumps. I also think that there are some on this board who have bought the Chaer sumps & pick-ups seperately - there's a guy in Perth who got one for around $350. Much better than a cut & shut on a mid-mount. And that way you have a (Soarer?) 1JZ, which is easier to find wiring diagrams and elctrical parts for.

You could try www.japimports.com.au for the Chaser sump - though they are a biy pricey.

What sorta car are you planning to stuff it into?

Hi Guy, just returned a full 1JZ-GTE front sump set up to a wrecker in QLD, dumb sucker sent me font, when I had ordered a rear. Give me a yell, If you are really desperate, as this guy was chasing over $400.00, for the sump conversion.

regards Chuck.

Good question! I will get the details tomorrow, and you can give them a call.
What car did your engine come from?

Please don't quote me, but I have been told that there are only 2 types of sumps on the 1J engines, they are either classified as front or rear. My 1J has a gap of approx 200mm from the gearbox bellhousing to the steel sump section, and I have been told its a rear sump setup. The engine came from a 92 Soarer. Catcth up with you tomorrow with the contavt details.

regards Chuck.

Actually, there are 3 types of sumps for the JZ series engines:

  1. front,
  2. mid, and
  3. rear mid.

Front sumps are found on Aristos, mid sumps are found on JZS131 Crowns, and rear mids are found on JZA80 Supras and JZZ30 Soarers.

bah.. they need to make engines like remote batteries... interchangable between brands and power(manufacturers and engines) and it takes 5 seconds to do it... lol but then u get into different sizes like AA are 6 cyls.. AAA and 4 cyls.. ok so ive completely lost my point and have given up.. its 2:35 am and im going to sleep
my point is.. its so much effort.. nothing is ever easy

My favorite words over the last few nights at the workshop have been:
"F*&ken" and "CAR" in that order!!

But if I didn't like it that much I guess I wouldn't do it.
Modifying cars that is.
