Car Companies... Mon, 15 July 2002 11:25 Go to next message
I know that there are only like 5 mega-car companies, ie: Daimler-Chrysler, Fiat....

my question: What are they? and what car companies do they own?
just asking out of general interest....and i have no idea what to start a search for on in google.

Not quite sure what you are asking but I'll have a little go at what I can remember off the top of my head:
Ford - Jaguar, Aston Martin, Volvo, Daimler, Ford, Mazda
GM - Holden, Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Opel, Vauxhall, Saab, Daewoo, Subaru, Suzuki, Hummer
BMW - Rolls Royce, BMW, Mini, Land Rover(? or is it Ford?)
Volkswagen - Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, Lamborghini, Bugatti, Bentley, Seat
DaimlerChrysler - Mitsubishi, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Plymouth
Fiat - Fiat, Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo
Renault - Renault, Nissan, Infiniti
PSA(?) Group - Peugeot, Citroen
Proton - Lotus, Proton

Toyota - Toyota, Lexus

Then you have a few independents:
Honda, Porsche

Thats most of the larger ones...damn I know a lot of useless crap! Nod Nod Nod Nod

Yeah, Yamaha have been doing stuff for Toyota for ages ie. 2TG's, the current Celica, Altezza...

I just didn't know if they were just affiliated or Toyota actually owned part/all of them.

Toyota have a majority share in Yamaha and own Daihatsu.

Not sure what else they own.

The have two other name brands marketed at different markets:
Lexus for the rich
Scion for the young and hip

Most of what Yamaha has done for Toyota involves head design, as far as I remember...

I thought Yamaha did all (or almost all) of Toyota's twin cam heads.

From what I'm aware, Yamaha have done things for Toyota since the 2000GT in 1967. AFAIK, the 2000GT engine was a Yamaha design. Actually, I think the whole car was a Yamaha design...
