ma61 tems ? Fri, 19 September 2003 00:18 Go to next message

Would it be possible to build a tems system - granted that a person was able to find the complete electronic package with an aftermarket suspesion set up ?

I started to salavate (?) dribble... when reading over the description... i've always wondered what the third console button was Smile

Any one got some ideas ? - would be mighty fancy

I dont think ma61's came with tems, ...and it would be a huge pain to get it out of an ma70/71 even if you could adjust the suspension to fit the shocks. You need the throttle position and speed sensor from the ECU as well as the steering wheel position etc etc etc

You can get a tein "electronic damping force controller" to go with tein shocks/struts that would allow you to adjust damping force etc. Expensive but probably the easiest way..

Thanks lumpy

I figured even trying to get all the bits and pieces together before installation would be hard enough... still its the theory of the matter which is more interesting...

but i'd agree... why not just use air bag suspension etc...

Get coilovers made.

I wouldn't be investing past that point in an MA61 in reality.

Whats wrong with a nicely setup suspension package for the MA61 that makes it require TEMS?

any ideas on price / availability of MA61 coilovers Rolling Eyes

if it were practical to use atleast the tems computer parts ... and not the suspension package from the ma70's then it would work fine....

far from a straight swap... but i dont think it would be imposible to adapt the electronic parts..

If you managed to fit the TEMS shocks into the ma61 (not sure how hard this would be), as well as the front and rear actuators on the struts (look like a can or cap that fits on the strut) then you'd also need:
TEMS computer,
Speed sensor input from speedo (ma70 to ma61 speedo compatibility),
Steering sensor(fits on steering column and switches to HARD when turning hard at high (>40kph) speed,
Throttle position sensor,
Stop light switch (switch to HARD when braking at over 60kph),
Neutral start switch,
"Check connector" - for troubleshooting TEMS,
Mode select switch (switching from Normal to Sport),
TEMS indicator (tells when it's soft, medium or hard).

All things you could get from a wrecked ma70 if you had the patience to sort it out. TEMS computer is mounted in rear hatch on drivers side.
There is just something cool about "Electonically Modulated Suspension"!! I must admit we took great care to retain the tems when doing the engine swap in my Supra - it's cool, and you can feel it working when driving the car hard!

Just buy an MA70

coilovers are a custom job.

Huh? I just did a nice reply to this and it didn't appear??

Assuming you can fit the ma70 tems shocks to the ma61, as well as putting the tems controllers (look like a hat or can that fits on the top of the struts) Then you'd also need:
TEMS computer,
Throttle position switch,
Stop/Brake light switch (switches tems to hard when braking at over 60kph),
Steering sensor (fits to steering column and switches tems to hard when cornering sharply at over 40kph),
Neutal Start Switch,
Check Connector (for troubleshooting),
TEMS indicator (so you know it's on!),
Mode select switch (to change from Normal to Sport)

You could get all this stuff by tracing it out the loom from a tems equipped ma70. Be interesting if you could make it all work too! I have TEMS and went to great trouble to make sure it still worked when we did the engine convversion. There's something about "Electonically Modulated Suspension" that is just cool

very cool indeed... and yet strangley practicle on long trips and cruising... yet no one has vested the time to this project... probably with good reason..

ma61 tems? best of both world...

nice and soft for cruisey drives and rock hard for the trip to maccas...

who doesnt love gadgetery ? rocket switches are grouse !
