As the title says I want to put a 4ag into a datsun 1200 ute. Just need some advice or handy hints on how to go about it, pictures would be good too. Thanks

i have seen it done, and it didnt look like it was anything major! (the 4ag is a damn small motor!)
Although this was back in the day when i knew not a whole lot about toyota's and i just went, cool - a 4ag in a datto ute!

its pretty simple, youll need to make custom engine mounts, and make new holes for the transmission mount point if you use the T50 box, and dont forget a custom driveshaft to suit the dato diff. wiring is the biggest of the challenges but not all that hard if you get your head around it. youll need to make a fuel delivery system and "possibly" upgrade one of the fuel lines from the tank to cope with the extra juice. depending on where you place the motor ( centre of the engine in line with the middle of the two strut towers is best for balance ) you may need to cut a bigger hole in the tunnel to accomodate the gearstick.
actually the G is a very nice motor for the 1200, nice and light and lots of power, youll love it, having said that , Ive helped others build some really nice 1200 engines that make crummiedoors look like theyre standing still, in fact they were probhably faster than an average G but money wise its expensive to get them to that point

i'd pick a 4AGE over a CA18 anyday.
the CAs are a heavy engine in comparison, plus the factory ECU is a cantankerous POS, especially in an older body.
the 4AGE loves to rev, is lighter, more parts are available and is a nicer engine all round.
with a GZE block, 20V head and a GT2530 it'll run rings around a CA18DET anyday.

thats a dreamy engine when it appears by baccas suggestion of a 4age it whould be out of his buget
i only suggested a ca18 converision because its a well documented converion on the 1200 site who cares how big the ecu is whe the car goes like stink

hey this is the exact conversion im investigating, 4agze into datto 1200
im after some solid information on the motor itself, i.e. specs, so if someone could please provide a link?? that would be great
but most of all what i want to know is how much it weighs, this will be a big factor in ca18det vs. 4agze debate
cheers fellas,
Michael
