glove box lock Sun, 21 September 2003 12:34 Go to next message

sorry its not really a "technical" question...

im going to stash my head unit and stacker in the glove box... but i need a lock that will live thru a nucleaer bomb

any ideas ? back up plan is to bolt a safe / carry box to the firewall... bit excessive i figure Smile

ull need a fairly sturdy glovebox tho,
it doesnt take a whole lot to wedge a bar in and snap the glovebox door off.

p.s. and no i am not a car theif, i only tried this on a hacker pos i bought once that had a locked glovebox with a diff key

um
if you're gonna put it in the glovebox, you'll be wanting to fab some new hinges, mountings for the hinges on the plasic, and a new glovebox door (all metal) as well as a lock.

usual tactic is prybar/large scredriver in at the top and lever. they did this to my mate's one even tho it was open Razz

hahaha

d'oh.... they arnt the brightest of people are they ?

hmm... the point i was more concerned with is hidden identity... if the crooks really want the gear they will bring a blow torch to the party...

i've also thought of making a "roller-door" cover to slide across the front console... that way its still reachable and dont have to worry about remote... but but but....

if the crooks really want the gear, they will steal your car (via hot-wire, or drag it onto a flatbed) take it somewhere secluded, strip it, and burn it

and unfortunately there is no way to protect yourself of this

the best thing to do is insure your shit, pay the extra to protect the no claim bonus, and have no excess, and just pray it dont happen (and always take the face plate, hide the remote or anything that resembles good deck/cds, and only have copied cd's in ya stacker)

You can't put that stuff in the glovebox! where is the ECU and Tach converter supposed to go? Very Happy

What kind of car is it? it might be a good Idea to stash the head unit and stacker separately so if they get one they don't necessarily get the other.

ma61...

come to the conclusion - may as well put the money into a better alarm.. move the bonnet release, lynch pins, hatch locks, central locking, etc etc, metal bars over the window and perhaps a small rottwheiler Confused
