Just reading through the for sale section, and it seems like 3t's have a habit of damaging pistons (or rings?).

In what way do they tend to fail?

Is this a common problem with the 3t engine? Does the problem effect the twin cam and turbo models too? Do 2Ts suffer similar problems?

The TA22 I just bought came with a 3t, which has low compression on one cylinder, which might indicate the piston or rings are damaged. Sounds like forged pistons would be almost as expensive as a new engine.

the 3t-gte engines have weak pistons from the factory. the pistons are one of the weak links in this engine. the distance between the top of the piston and the first ring land is very small thus when they get very hot or u wind the boost up to much they tend to pack up..........
hope this helps.
