Crownwheel and pinion needs to be adjusted or replaced. Speak to a diff shop, they'll know exactly what's going on.

It really could be a range of things if it is your diff, none of them good.
Check the usual suspects first...tailshaft and also the central tailshaft bearing. Whilst you are under the car, check to see how much backlash is on the diff by rotating the tailshaft whilst the car is in neutral and handbrake on. If there is heaps, then it suggests something is up inside your diff. If you are confident setting up your diff (ie you have a bearing press and the appropriate tools to measure the correct amount of pinion preload), then hop to it and save $200.
I know I'd put it back together only to have it moan like a cheap hooker.

Nah is not tailshaft..its new with new bearings, uni's and all.
Its a bit hard to check it now, its on the garage floor
It just needs to be fixed before the new engine's running thats all...
