I am considering a conversion of putting a 7m-gte into an MA-61 supra, but i hear these engines have problems, i have read that fitting a metal head gasket and tightening the head bolts will fix the head gasket, are there any other known problems??

I hear that people with less powerful 1JZ's also stuff the rep of the 7MGTE too! he he he

I've got a 7MGTE in a MA61, it layed down 300hp at the wheels last dyno run at Rigolli Performance. Stocker head gasket, never changed it. Just a re-torque on the head.

Make sure she's tuned very well with no detonation and the head gaskets shouldn't be a problem.

Go for it. It's a fairly straight forward conversion. Particularly if you want to do it all yourself.

I could'nt give you power figures but i can tell you that my cressida weighs 1600kg,and the good ol 7mgte("anchor" thats what 1jz owners call it)pulls the cressida to 1/4 mile at 13.67@105 and you know what!! apart from the sparkies that done the wiring the car has'nt been anywhere else,...no tune ups no dyno, no nothing,..i put it together to the best of my knowledge, and i'm no mechanic,i've got no certificate or anything,i reckon a good dyno tune might give me another second...what i'm getting at,...you got to admire the 3.0 7mgte propelling a 1600kg car to 13.6,...20 years ago i had a 351 fairlane,i had spent $2.500and it was in high 14's...thats what i'm getting at....cheers.

Grand91 - thats not a bad time for a fairlane with a 351 !

my last car was a ZH fairlane running a overboared 351 ( estimates of 6.something litres) , c10 auto and the 3.90 diff and it was a fantastic muscle cruiser .. no sports performer at all - just grunt and plenty of it Handled like a turd - but hey its a luxury car - not a sports car Wink

Considering that those cars weigh close to 2 tonnes ( mine was a fully optioned marquis ), to get a 14 is good IMHO..

Same motor in say a falcon ( xy XW ish ) would be doing 12's..

A 7mgte is a really nice setup i hear - bar that head gaskey rumour, and they are known to be a very hefty power unit when tuned and modded - looking forward to seeing it in your supra at a later date

man the 7m gte is an absolute monster of an engine very raw power, scraped knuckles, dirty oily smelling type of beast I know I know i got a 1J but that was for ease of install and peace of mind

ohh yeah if your deticated you can quite safly pull 450bhp

man i've copped 2 head gaskets on the 7m's, so not saying it will happen just maybe buget for it..ok

oh btw grab some magazines and research you will save your self alot of money the guys are quoating 3500 to 2500 i got my dam chaser cut (1J) for 2200 so look around.... i'd sugest our club sponsors sss automotive or asian auto imports

good luck and don't rush the thing plan it well before you even get close to buying the engine ok- it will save you many head aches..
