custom speaker pod jig - for ma61/ ra60 doors Wed, 24 September 2003 13:00 Go to next message
Ive made a set of jigs for properly installing 6.5" speakers into the doors of ma61s, with the addition of a wood spacer so you can remove the felt pocket from the door trim. Looks much more attractive than cutting througgh the felt pocket, and sound much better than the 3.5" dash speakers.
I havent had time to get pics yet, but i will post them when mine are finished! for my own application Im also making 50mm spacers for a pair of professional 6.5" woofers..magnet is so deep, 50mm was needed! I can cut them for people at a reasonable price.
Enquire for more info.

mdf - 12mm as standard, but can organise 16/ 18mm or even larger if its reqd? (if you have very large speakers like me) obviously price fluctuates between thickness.
To give you an idea...check out on your door, see where the vinyl pocket at the bottom of the door is? If you rip that off, you have a blank piece of vinyl in a weird shape...well that shape between where the pocket ended and the door trim starts, and the front of the door is the width of it, and as for height - it follows the angle of the arm wrest thing, down the angle, matches the front of the door, then cuvers down another angle and along about 8mm flush from the bottom of the door when it closes.

Oh crap, i hope you understand you still need to cut a hole in the door! Its just to make it look nice, and add some more spacing!

I've just been thinking about this myself as I badly need to upgrade the speakers in my MA61. I already have a pair of speakers set aside for the doors, but they're 6" diameter. Sad

After taking to them with a tape measure, it turns out my speakers are indeed 6.5" (or slightly under). So there ya go!

yeah 6.5" is the standard - you wont find many 6"!!

It covers the whole part of the door where the pocket was. Can someone send me a pic of an ma61 door? Ill show you where it goes.

talked to various audio "experts" today...

out of interest when they say 6" the are quoting the diameter of the speaker cone.

6.5" is the measurement from mounting hole to mounting hole diagonally...

I regularily kick mine...actually, more knock them when I'm getting in. It's because the door is real long and its when you can't open it properly.

I had to cut the door panels on my RA60 to fit these, which I'm not real keen on doing in the XX. I have Supra door panels.

I went to my friendly car audio shop and a few hours and $75 later this is what I got. Very Happy

The next ones I'm going to make are going to be pushed out more and slightly angled towards me, trying to cut as little of the door as possible. If I can I don't want to cut it at all. Its a shame the speaker hole in the door only suits the RA60 door panels.
