Best guy to talk to about t-18 sleepers would be Phil (TE72_Turbo). He owns one with a 4A GTE.
They're really not that fugly though

Actually I can tell you a little about them I guess....
RWD, 1.8 ltr single cam. Makes about 100hp I think
T50 gbox, T series rear end, 3.7 gear ratio.
Hope this helps a little (and that my info is actually correct)

100hp? try 70
the old 3t is gutless but it is reliable as all fuck
i trash shit out of mine on a regular basis with no problems at all
i paid 50$ for the car and ive done 40000kms so far
even raced it at calder and had regular laps of the farm flat out on dirt ;P its a road registered paddock basher that wont die
only thing is the rust, its starting to get into mine fairly bad so i gotta start looking for a replacement, i know where theres a reaaaaaaaaal smick blue one with chrome wheels that just looks neat, dunno if its modified its not forsale, but if it was id snap it up
great cars

The T18's floorpan is basically the same as the AE86 sprinter. It has pretty much the same spec running gear as a TA22 celica (T series diff, T50 5 speed gearbox) but with a 3T-C 1.8L single cam, carby engine (as mentioned). Panels & parts are cheap as hell, cause you're not competing with the hundreds of TA22 owners out there just to find a straight pair of guards or whatever you're after.
Yes, they are quite fugly, I think the designers used a set square when drawing up their sketches, but it makes it all the more satisfying when blasting past the falcadores

yeah, the 3t/c is a bit gutless, i got a t18 thats pretty strait that i wanna chuck a 4age or 3t-gte in it the 3t/c is relaible as fuck, and i hear in porta rica, they run turbo 3t/c's and get 9's, so thats something to look into.
ps: dont suppose anyone has 3t/c extractos for sale for a te72 or a detailed conversion of a 4age transplant.
cheers

T18s were marketed by Toyota Aust. as a "macho machine" with a whopping 75hp, which, in comparison to the 4K powered corollas it sold alongside, didn't go too bad. Didn't go too good though, either.
In Japan, they were available in either Corolla or Sprinter form as the "Liftback", with the Levin and Trueno models having a 115hp 2TGEU.
There's a guy in WA who has a website about putting a 3T-GTEU in one, bolt in swap. And using a crossmember from an Aussie AE71 you can put a 4A-GE in, bolt in swap (I think). A 1G-GZE would go in nicely too. Hehe.
Even if you got a dead standard one, got a webber off an Escort, some extractors, and a 4.3:1 diff - burnout machine.
Good luck, not enough of these are done up.
Jon.
BTW, go to "Marks Corolla site" in NZ, and he has some excellent links to TE72s and TE71s, and in his misc pics, there is a pictorial list of every #E7# model built.

If you decide to fit an AE71 crossmember to mount a 4AG, then you will need to fit the AE71's rack & pinion steering too.

you need to change over both the engine crossmember (with rack bolted to it) and the steering column.
