Noise when entering a Corner...
|

Hey All,
When I take a hard right corner in my Supra it makes a grinding noise yet when i take a hard left corner, it doesn't make any noise at all?
Does anyone know what the sound is comming from?
After I got the wheel alignment done, it still makes the noise and the tie rods seem ok.
Cheers.

i'll put my mney on the super-obvious "wheel bearing"
had similar symptoms when bearings have gone.
jack up the wheel/s and rotate the wheel by hand, any rumbling or noise indicates bearing dying.

When I lifted my Supra up and checked the wheel bearing. I did not see any CV's in the front since it is RWD.
Cheers anyway

I know this might sound a little silly, but i once in my foolish days owned a gti proton with a modded exhaust. I found i had the same noise, turns out it was the zorst hitting the side apron on the back of the car.

my money was on the bearing too - or it could just be tyre noise - more load or something ..

you haven't said if it is from the front or rear yet either?? which one??? (and is the noise actually coming from the left or right??)
is it a grinding/scraping noise, or grinding/rumbling noise? high pitched, low pitched??
check your tyres and inside the guards for any recent scrape marks, check that your hubs are not loose (if they are, the brake disc can move a little and scrape on the brake pads/caliper)
if everything seems tight, and there are no scrape marks, then keep looking, for something to scrape, it must have contact, and you should be able to see evidence of that....
yup, exhaust is a good point too, could be touching anywhere under the body..
also check engine mounts, and suspension mounts to see if anything is moving aroudn too much.
should be able to find the noise with a methodical approach

Sorry Oldcorollas
Forgot to mention where the noise is originating from... It's the front, but only when i put a fair bit of weight on the left wheel taking a hard right corner... But doesn't do it when i take the corner in the opposite direction
I'll lift the car up again tomorrow and remove the wheel and check the bearings, hub, rotors, brakes etc to see what it could be...
Good old Uni holidays always turn out to be "working" holidays
Keep you all informed.
Cheers.

Ok from the front, cant be exhaust grinding, how about your wheel alignment, doesnt sound like a tyre rubbing on the guard does it.

have you got non standard wheels on it ie wider.
- wouldn't be wheel bearing as it would do it all the time.
- i'm going either the whell/tyre is rubbing on the inner guard or something along those lines.
- it may even be the spring rubbing on the shock (metal on metal)happened to me.
- try even spraying WD40 or something like that on the rubbers one at a time take it for a drive and see if its still there untill its not anymore then bingo.
-dont start spending money trying to fix things other wise it will leave you poor.
thats me with years of knowledge.

Thanks for the reply all
Haven't had enough time to look at the car and it is not causing me too much grief... It could be any number of the things in the car that could cause the sounds. As long as I don't go too fast into a right corner (placing a lot of weight on the left wheel), everything seems fine
I'll have a look to see if any of the wheel arch flares, suspension or anything located there could cause the problem...
Cheers.
The MA61 is completely stock.

is it metal-on-metal grinding, or tire-on-plastic "scrubbing" ? check your tires for wear anyhow, inside and out, as that could be waht's causing it.
GO TO BED!
