no thanks. too common a color to want. That said, i would rather have panda than sh*tty blue with paint coming off, a white roof where the paint has come off and a gold hatch.
wouldnt turn one down, but i will not respray it in panda, might do the bonnet matt black or CF (made out of that is, not that contact gear), but thats it.

Um panda refers to the black and white duo-tone doesnt it, the red and black etc etc or any other variant. isnt that just called a duo-tone paint job?
20V... yea me saw your black ride, and decided I would attack mine with a metallic grey and pearl black.. shhhh

Give me a panda colored ae86 anyday. Something different on the road, stands out. White and black panda is nice (cheers to Dodgy Haros Levin) , esp with a black bonnet, but i'm really fond of the red and black panda.

the sad reality is that almost EVERYONE gets it wrong..
believe me..
The general rule of thumb is to paint anything below that indented groove on the body black, and just place the body moulds where it normally sits (obviously painted white).
With the bumpers, just paint the above white where is the groove too.
But here is the hard part, the wheels arches, and the lights surounds (at the back).
PEOPLE ALWAYS ALWAYS gets this wrong... The only person who i've seen done it correctly is dodgy haro.
My advice to people getting a panda spray job, LOOOK very carefully at brochures.. it's not as simple as people think. The lines are not dead straight and aligned on the body. THe wheel arches are done in proportions.
rock on.

a) straight line....
if you are talking about the 4ac, pretty crappy...
if you are talking about a bigport 86kw... not bad..
a bit slow on take off.. but once you get into the high rev range... pretty sweet.
b) That said, if you can keep it in the power band/rev range, and corner well, it is an awesome car for cornering. weight is close to 50/50 so it's pretty drivable. And the car is very, very responsive. So you can feel and react to the road conditions better than a lot of cars.
c) In terms of money out of pocket, it's a tough one.
purcahse price is overly expensive. Modyfying one so it's decent is also expensive too (2k for a limited slip is a joke). By the time you finish with an engine transplant, light tuning, suspension upgrade, and the diff, you would have blown more money into the car than buying silvia K.
Running costs is good however.
Bottom line, it's a good car. A bit pricey for what it is tho. Most people buy it as a daily runner, and work from there. However, only the hardcor 86 enthusiast see it all the way to the end.
rock on.

How true ... mine owes me about $15k so far ...
It'd be close to $18k once the new engine and LSD go in ...
It'd be worth it all in the end ... provided u keep the car for long, long, long time ...

I have a silver { was once, now faded } and black , Aus delivered one , with blue interior . Two Tone is very dated on most cars , but i think the white and black still looks good on the ae86 , the silver and black just screams 80's . Maybe toyota where looking at the holdens of that time period . I don't think the car will be repainted silver/black , just silver will be easier .

initial d
but seriously...
when i actually get off my arse, and maybe do some work to my Trueno, instead of sitting here, typing on my computer....
i agree that panda...in the true sense of the word, may possibly be overdone. by that, i mean white over black.
it's not panda if it's red over black - unless someone just pumped your average bear full of bullets...
when i do get busy on my car, it'll be what i'm calling 'pearly panda' - that is - pearl white, from a late model Lexus LX470(basically a mega luxury 100 series Landcruiser..), over metallic black from any late model Toyota
that...would be my ultimate paint job, panda styles...on an AE86

I reckon white has just been done to death.
Almost everyone who repaints their ae86 has always done it in white. It's always the same kind of white too (i.e. the paint code has been ripped of some sick ass new car) and it's done in mad tupac. It always comes out SUPER SUPER white. If its not panda, it's always straight white with color coded bumpers.
I reckon if you are going to do white, go for a 'racing white'. When polished, the ivory off color will shine more than a super white. Also, the constrast isn't as high, so you can see and appreciate the finer details of the body. And most imporantly, it just looks sportier.
I mean there is nothing wrong with a whiter than white pearl job, but when every tom dick and harry has got one, it gets a bit annoying.
