my car got keyed...what shoud i do???

hi guys, here's my story..
looking for a parking spot at the shops. a guy in front was stationary so i past him. just as i past him, a car starts to reverse out to leave. i immediately flick on my indicator. i look in my rear view mirror and the guy that i past before starts to move behind me and signals aswell
anywayz..i start to park...in the meantime i told my brother to remember the other guyz number plate (i was getting paranoid coz he might do something to my car when i go in the shops)because i know that he's peeved off coz i found the parking spot before him.
4 hours later, walking to my car... someone has keyed my blue celica...put 2 and 2 together...bloody scumbag in the holden
What should i do??...i've got his number plates..

If I read that right, you stole that spot from that guy that was waiting for the other guy to leave. The guy you stole the spot from would have seen the owner of the parked car get in and was just waiting for him to leave, and you know how bloody slow people seem to be when you are waiting for them to get their shit together and get their car out.
But what he did to your car was really not called for, but I know the rage he was feeling when some punk just cruises on in and steals a spot from him he was waiting forever for. Noone likes a line jumper.

that guy didn't signal at all and the thing is, he was about 30 metres behind 'me' when i signalled for that spot. when i signalled, he then started to drive up

u didnt even see him do it. it could have been a schitzophrenic nymphomaniac. unless you find witnesses you will have to drive around with a keyed up paint job until you decide to fork out the cash yourself.
on another note parking spot snatchers are inconsiderate twits but no one should key a defenceless car.

Yeah mate. Unfortunately all you have is "motive". That is not enough. Unless someone saw him, there is nothing to be done.
On another note, has anyone noticed how much keying and that sort of stuff is starting to happen these days. I am starting to get really paranoid.

yeah thats how it starts. you can prove he keyed your car but you go out and find his car and key it. he comes back see his keyed up car and suspects someone else and with the same mentallity goes out to key their car. the cycle goes on and in the end everyone's paint is ruined for NO LOGICAL REASON.
IF YOU want to do something then go smack him one in the teeth while he is looking at you straight in the eyes. you're a silly bugger if you think keying another persons car is going to make this situation better.
personally, i would grit my teeth and wait until the nextime i catch that catch that bastard in the act then make him pay

have ya mate there with a shotgun to the guys cars.. u go up to him and threaten him.. say if he doesent give u the money to pay for the fixing of your car.. then he is gonna have a shit load more damage

I expect to see you all for counselling in the near future.
what if it wasn't them? they might have been pissed, given you the finger, yelled obscenities, then looked for another park (like I would).
then some punk teenagers come along, spot your car, and key it to be arseholes (as punk teenagers are).
then you go postal and hold a shotgun to the guys car, key his car, threaten him or whatever, and he didn't do anything

well its better than just going and keying there car imho
least u get a chance to not to the damage if it indeed wasnt them..
well.. if not... atleast confront them WITHOUT the shotgun to see their reaction. most people will freak out enough to cough up the money to repair

i've got his rego and i also know that he was driving a grey commodore vn. if i see that car there again, i will do more than just key it back....as JAG7799 mentioned before, i'll look at his reaction first

Or you could be a real asshole, and call the cops with a story like this....
"Hello Police? I just saw someone vandalise my car at the local shops. He then got in a VN Commodore with number plates bla bla".
Then when they go knocking on the door saying "someone saw you vandalise a car", it's up to how he reacts as to what happens next. At the very least even if nothing eventuates, you'll scare the hell out of him with cops contacting him.
But in terms of a solution, unless he says to the cops "but he stole my car parking spot!!", you are up for the repair bill out of your own pocket.
