We've had water restrictions in Vic for Months. I haven't been able to wash my car since July. I live on a dirt road so my car isn't looking too good now. I just don't understand how using a bucket to wash you car can use less than a trigger hose

get a $99 pressure washer or bribe your nearest car rental company (most use brooms so not if you have really good paintwork but can do reasonable job inside and out in about 5-10mins if you dont have a whole heap of shit inside)

Yea, and I love washing the 2nd half of my car with the dirt from the 1st half that made it's way into the bucket too.
As for me, I've currently given up washing it. What with the very dry weather, high winds and the huge amount of dust that the two previous conditions create, why waste your time? It's got a layer of dust again within an hour. I'm confident that the two layers of wax I put on a while ago will keep it good until more rain comes. It's not like anything is "washing" the wax off afterall.......

Well here in colac - were on water restrictions too - irony is our water supply dams are OVERFLOWING in capacity ..
In my backyard - fish have migrated to bite at the dogs toes , and frogs sing louder than the magpies in the morning ..
My otherwise large white and tan saint bernard pup - is now a brown and tan saint bernard pup because she loves splashing in the puddles - its great fun for her at least!
Still do the bucket o sudsy water though for the car - on the front lawn - then hose off with a trigger job - Car still is happy and shiney

The rules are stupid though...
You are allowed to use the hose to water the grass but you are not allowed to park your car on the grass and use the hose to wash it... How stupid is that???

I can wash my car with 1 bucket of water, using the dregs to do the wheels. Quick squirt off with the hose & Chamois & Wax. All up about 15L's I reckon and its all done on grass on my back lawn. Might start washing once every 2-3 weeks now though, I hate it when my car looks heaps dirty, doesn't do it any credit

I wonder what will happen to those hand wash café places that have popped up everywhere. Will they be allowed to continue operating as previously?
So the restrictions only apply within Sydney? that mean i can wash the car in Helensburg?

Yeah people who use their hoses to clean their drives ought to be taken into the desert and left there for 2 weeks without any water. Like to see them waste it again after that.
As for people who water their gardens in the middle of the day, dont they realise that it is doing the plants more harm than good?
I think I will be taking my car to those automated brushless washers. Can get it washed for about $10 - $15 or so. Being black it gets pretty dirty.

Businesses that require the use of water to actually function will be allowed a usage permit, which will allow them to use water during the day, however they will still be restricted in the amount they are allowed to use based upon their permit.
Asuming this will be the same system they had in place a few years back when Dad had a permit for his business.

No you're not.
Only allowed to hand hose or water can your gardens only up to 7:30am or after 4pm. Even sports clubs arn't allowed to water their grounds unless they are major.
They should have a dobbing system, and that $4000 fine in VIC should apply to the entire east coast.
But be careful when you accuse someone of wasting water when you see them hosing their driveways. Make sure it wasn't just laid as you need to water freshly laid cement.
And from what I understand, there is to be no hose whatsoever on your car. The rinse is with a bucket.

hahaha classic!
Apparently there was a 10% increase in water usage over the last week.
I think sydney water needs to rethink its conditions.
i.e. cant use a sprinkler but you can stand in your garden with a hose for as long as you want???? sound stupid??
You can use a hose on the garden(grass), for no restricted amount of time, but you cant wash your car on the garden(grass)

Here in Perth we are on like permanent water restrictions. You aren't allowed to water between the hours of 6am and 6pm. You can hand water but not many people I see do.
You can only use sprinklers or reticulation on two days of the week designated by your street number. Kind of a pain, but a lot smarter than the ones you're describing.

And I thought I was hopeless with what a garden was. At least I know it's called a LAWN and not a garden when referring to the mass of grass you push your mower over. Unless you're into trimming the roses with the victa.

And the Cabra prices!
Ah well. I'll just go back in my hole and sulk... With my legal XXX pr0n and pot...

Yea, when you put something in brackets like that, you are saying what the first word really means in your view.
Just like when I say: my transmission(auto), I am saying what my transmission is. What you were saying is what your garden is made of.
If you meant and/or grass like you put above, use that instead like you mean it.
And yea, I did almost make a crack about parking your car on the hedges.
