I bought a TE-72!!! - questions inside!

Picked it up on saturday... A 1980 TE-72 T-18 SE. $1500!
Its metallic poo-brown, with a fire breathing 3T-C & some awesome high performance retreads on some shiny steel rims.
The luxury tan velour interior features some classy brown & white central racing stripes, reminiscent of grandmas couch from back in the '70s... Oh, and a genuine woodgrain dash fascia from a plastic walnut tree.
Dunno why i didnt get a car like this years ago instead of the AE-86!!?!??!
Now, in all seriousness...
It handles like a boat. Will AE-86 suspension components fit the TE-72? (shocks & springs, specifically)?
will a 2TG twincam head bolt onto the 3T block? if so, what do i need to do it? (the amount i know about T series engines can be written on the head of a pin.... but i'm more than willing to learn! ) - dont wanna go injection, im a member of 'Team Povo' now... the less it costs the better, so carbs are the go.
Is there anything else i should know about these cars/engines that i can do to make it a little bit better?
Any & all help would be appreciated.

another thing...
what the hell is that belt-driven thing hanging off the side of the engine on the drivers side?
at first glance, it looks like a power steering pump (but it doesnt have power steering ) it seems to be some kind of air pump.... is it part of the EGR or pollution system on the 3T-C?
if no one knows anything about these cars (which i refuse to beleive is the case in a place like this) - can you at least point me towards a link or a website where i can find out how to go about improving it a little.
many thanks.

For the 2T 3T head swap - do a search in these forums (it ahs been covered any times over).
The car sounds like a real style master with velour an' all.
the pump that you refer to is an air pump - good for very little except sapping a few HP.
Good luck with it!

AE86 rear suspension should be a direct bolt up, also a 4.1 diff is easily sourced for a little extra kick, front suspension im not sure on but im guessing it would be pretty close. best bet with carbs is a set of Solexs, they can be had very cheap for a set ( around $100 if you search around ) manifolds are a little harder but i remember giving one to Rod a while back maybe he still has it.
or you could go a 36/36 IDA Weber and buy a manifold from redline (ive got a carb somewhere you can have )
there are a lot of common things in terms of getting power from this era car ( why do you think i ditched the AE86 for the KE70 ) to the AE86 but the bonus is the parts are easier and cheaper to come by
hope your loving the allmighty power I smell a conversion coming on hmm maybe you wont have to change your forum name after all

Just chuck in a complete 2T-G. It's a piece of piss to do, and you'll find it's a significant improvement over the 3T-C. I did this exact upgrade in my old TA22 almost 10 years ago (that makes me feel SO old) and I was quite pleased with the results.

cool, no worries.
found a Carina front cut with a 3TGTEU + everything, but at $2000, its worth more than the car. Team Povo wont stand for it!

LoL.... man I remember seeing advertisments for the T-18 in magazines and also brochures....... I vividly rememeber one advert that had a goldy/browny metallic T-18 with this guy with half the buttons down the front open.... exposing a.. "then fasionable" hairy chest and a few birds in the back ground getting all hot and bothered over this guy or rather the car he was driving. And to top it all off.... the headline for this advert..... "T-18..........THE MUCHO MACHINE!"
LMFAO!!
