T50 Bellhousing Problems Mon, 29 September 2003 05:35 Go to next message
I've run into a problem fitting my 4AGE with an aussie T50 sprinter box into my KE10. I bolted the slave cyl on and found it fouls on the steering rack. So I either need a Japspec bellhousing (sure like they're all over the place!!) or could I have the bellhousing modified, but cutting out the chunk with the slave cyl mount and hole for the fork and everything and rewelded onto the otherside of the bellhousing? does anyone have any other suggestions??

ermm correct me, im sure im wrong, but if the steering rack is fouling on the slave then you either have a jap bell housing ( slave on drivers side ) or its recirculating ball not a rack? or you have a left hand drive car????

Aus spec slaves are on the passenger side, and the problem they will give you is if you run extractors they will cook the fluid in standard line, its easy to get a new line made up, custom make a heat shield around the slave and wrap heat foil around the new line.

if its r/b type steering then youre probhably better off replacing with a rack ( good time to think about a shortened rack) custom units will be around the same as getting a replacement unit rebuilt, i know what id be doing Smile

okay, maybe I'm technically incorrect in calling it a rack, but whatever it is, there is a steering knuckle involved that hits directly on the side of the slave. Since the steering works suitably well, and I don't have any spare cash lying around, it will be staying. The gearbox will have to change, luckily if I go the cutting and welding route I've got plenty of guys on hand at work that will do it for me. I just need to know if it's a 'done thing' or if I'm strongly advised against it.

cheers

i dont think having the slave cylinder near the extractors (or the line for that matter) is much of a problem, i have yet have trouble and im not using any heat protection tho it probably wouldnt hurt.
