what do these actually do to your handling, i know what they do in the case of axle tramp {my problem ATM} but what do they do to your handling, i.e. massive roll, snap oversteer/understeer, rock hard rear ect.

Depends on the type.
Most of them will act like a super stiff rear anti-roll bar and make your car a real understeering pig.

i can drift good so i'm good with over steer, but i HATE understeer,

Tramp bars are bad bad bad for handling. Instantaneous and unpredictable changes to the car's roll centre are never a good thing. Find another way to eliminate axle tramp, this is not the way to do it!

Although I like the idea of seeing an old Corona with tramp bars, I have to agree with Norbie on this one. Defintly not a good idea for a road car and a poor substitute for well maintained suspension if you do have tramp problems.
