re: 3sgte/ct26 turbo Wed, 17 July 2002 09:08 Go to next message
Hi all

I have a 3sgte/ct26 turbo powered MR2. I want to rebuild the turbo for better performance. I have been quoted around $1300 to extract the most power from the standard ct26, this includes a full rebuild, hi flow and T04 wheel. Should I rebuild the standard ceramic ct26 or replace it with a new larger unit at well over $2000?

regards,

Richard

The cheapest way is to get a CT26 off a 7MGTE as it has a larger exhaust housing but the same size rear wheel and comp wheel is 47mm compared to 40mm and has steel shaft .

if your going to rebuild it any way stick with the original turbo. when they high flow it they will put a steel wheel in it. i have a freind that had his high flowed from Dymanic turbos in bris with the largest t3 wheel they could fit and had a very good gain from that. 208hp at the wheels with only a jap plug and play computer and a very free flowing exaust and 15psi

208 rwhp?! With 15psi and a computer?

Sounds great.

There isn't enough fuel is there?

Sure there's nothing else done? Injectors etc.

its getting plenty of fuel
the same computer is still running the motor only now it has a garrett GT30R turbo and was dynoed on saturday to produce 240hp at the wheels on only 12psi and the air fuel ratio is still in around 11.5/1.
quarter mile time before the new mods was 13.4

Richard, I'm in the process of getting a rebuilt ct26 sent from NZ. Purely because this guy has done alot of them, and I have kinda an easy way to get it from there.

If you want I can put you in contact with the guy there.

Mikey, thats great! I'm organising a new computer to go with the new turbo and have been fairly concerned about fueling. What sort of revs did you need for those figures?

Turbo Caldina, hope I didn't sound doubtful. What series of 3sgte is this?

jase,

thats standard turbo so peak power was around 6200-6300rpm? havent worked it out exactly
not very much revs at all...
with a high flow ct26 t04e 50 trim front wheel, power will peak close to 7000rpm or more depending on cams and head flow..and they are good for around 380-400hp @ 2.3:1 pressure ratio....so 1.3bar boost or so..

michael.

1.3 bar is a bit much for the bearings to handle
the turbo on the friends mr2 lasted about 12 months of hard driving (drifting)before a blade fell of the exaust wheel
and when rob at turbo dynamics pulled it apart to rebuild it they found that the bearing case was unrepairable
because the ct26 bushes are only 320 degrees they dont last as long at higher than 13psi and the only company i have found toreplace the bushes with a proper ball bearing is blitz but the cost of that turbo is around the $4000 mark
