Heys guys - Bar taking off the insulation under the bonnet which im going to do - whats the best way to reduce the heat under a st185 gt4's bonnet ..
Im fitting the grp A bumper on my 185 - to hopefully allow more airflow to enter the engine compartment ( for radiator and later FM intercooling , But getting the heat out is the problem
Seeing im not blessed with a Gropu a bonnet , I had pondered using another one as a mule to make up a trd 3000gt supra Style airvent setup to let the hot air escape .. ie a few open holes , or more open venting points to replace the current small vents in the bonnet, and some sort of scooping on the underside to direct airflow out
I dont want this to look too EVO ish - and not ruin the nice lines of the front of the car - Any suggestions on how this could be done subtly without looking too crazy ?

Stu,
Bonnet venting is a must but also heat wrap everything you can. ceramic coat as well if you want to do it properly.

well the new exhaust/dump pipe is the next major modification happening to mine - it will mostly be HPC treated for the dumpy + the connecting pipes
I had thught about replacing the two VERRY INADEQUITE small vents at the back of the bonnet with larger Evo 7 ish stlye ones - ie making the holes a little larger - fitting a mesh type setup over the hole - but get it done prifessionally so it doesnt look like the bonnets been hacked up by a jig saw ..
I do like the 4 vent shape of the supra trd 3000GT too - thoug i wonder if thats too EXTREME for a gt4 ..
at a guess - two larger vents at the back - shuld do the job - or an extra pair over the ehaust manifold , but once again - it could spoil the looks totally of the cars front
Still open for suggestions

Hey.
Do you also have problems with high temp.?
How do it react when it is nearly cold , do you feel a difference.?

My temp guage usually runs around half way - but creeps ALOT in stop start traffic . Also after long trips you can hear the water having a good bubble away as its near boiling ..
Im hoping the larger grp A bumper will help with airflow to the radiator - then troubleshoot from there ..
I just fiond the heat in the engine bay has no where to go - when the cars been idle for a while - which cant be doing underbonnet stuff anygood

I have the grp. A front bumber but have a lot of problems with air temperature even though I live in Denmark where the temps is lower than Aus.
I have even made a mod so the pump to the IC is on all the time.
But still there is a lot of problems. I am looking for a/a IC to mine.

That I will remember Spectral do you pay the costs to send it down under.?
I have just measured the temp in the IC it was app. 40 degrees celcius when idle and warm motor. when driven a bit hard it shows app. 65 degrees also celcius. It would be higher if I have driven it a long time I guarantee.?
Is that too high temp. or what.?

how about I pay for the shipping costs of the A-A unit to you, and you pay shipping costs for the W-A to me

Hey guys
There are a few things that I have done which that have helped. Removing the the battery to the rear or even replacing it with a slim line odessey (incased in steel cover). I relocated the fuse box lower (soon to be in glove box)as this gets so hot you cant even touch it most times. These two sit right next to your filter box and transfer heat to it and your AFM.
If you still have the standard cat in place then this too generates excess heat as its right in front. Its a good idea to remove the insulation from Grp A bonnets but because the GT4 bonnets are not designed to allow heat to escape I know of a few that the paint has started to peel.
Thermo wrap also helps.

puffy , re cat - thats my next thing gone - its being moved further back when i get the new exhaust happening , and yould you think that a front mount , instead of top mount - would assist more heat to dissipate from the bonnet - or also - have the opposite cold air ram effect from the top while moving ?
I had thought seriously about a group a bonnet swap in the future - but i guess sourcing one would be harder again then a bumperbar ( as you know ive done ) and also cost me a shitload more than modifying the one i have with extra vent-age ..
heat wrap is being investigating - and HPC coated dump pipe is definantly happening ..
