Brake re-sealing... Thu, 02 October 2003 10:06 Go to next message
Greets all!

I have a set of JZZ30 Soarer BIGer brakes Very Happy Very Happy to go on my UZZ31 and am about to re-seal them with the relevant Toyota kit, both fronts and back. In the kit there is a little satchel of pink grease - is that to be used within the cylinder or on the sliders or both? Do I need to use brake fluid anywhere in the re-assembly process?

Also, do I need to be worried about very minor scratches on the pistons??????

Thanks Y'all!!
AE.

use the grease inside the caliper slides you dont need much, you can also use a very small amount on the piston to help it go in easier

if you can feel it (or any pitts) with your finger nail? yes you do have to worry about it, you can get new pistons or get them stainless steel sleaved

Thanks to both you guys - I got to thinking I can more than likely use the pistons out of the current calipers in the car - I beleive that the rear brakes are the same in both models - just that the disk is bigger in the JZZ* models.

if the discs are bigger you will generally find the caliper and are slightly wider, sometimes ( like with the sprinter discs ) its hard to see until you put a ruler over them as they look identical.
