if your doing it digital
its not big deal about your page to page bleeding
why do you want it to start with?
from what i understand, you want a 4x a4 side by side (or a 2x a3 length side to length side)
correct?
paper comes in certain GSM weight
do you want a mroe solid gsm or a paper thin gsm?
obviously the can get gloss semi gloss or matte
anyhow, your pdf is corrupt for me so i cant see...

hi xfader,
i'm a production coordinator in a gov't publishing group.
if i've read your question right, you want a paper stock with a gloss finish that's lighter than magazine covers?
With all that ink, you've gotta print onto a coated stock, something like Monza, Impress, Opal Plus are ones we use frequently as they're good quality but well priced. All of those have a gloss, satin and matt option. Magazines use a pretty light stock, so your weight would be no more than 200 gsm.
If you want that super waxy/gloss finish you can either get the printer to print a gloss varnish as a fifth colour while printing - some call it a machine varnish or a wet-on-wet varnish as you don't wait for the colour-inks to dry before varnishing. Otherwise you'll want to gloss celloglaze (thin clear laminate) the cover - but that's pretty expensive. Ask your printer for samples.
Seeing as you've done the artwork in Indesign, make sure anything bleeding (art that runs off the edge of paper - as if you've printed up to the edge) goes off the page by about 3mm. the printer will ensure enough extra art is printed so when trimmed, there's no ugly white gaps - and when you make a PDF, the application simply trims the art to the edge of the page.
Is the book going to bound with front/back covers joining with a spine (like one of those ugly trader magazines) or stapled (see any recent Macworld)? You have to allow for spine width. Either way, set up covers (inside and out) as if they were flat sheets of paper. Do the inside pages (first right-hand page inside the cover is page 1) in separate document. Don't layout the text as if it's flat - 1 page in the file should be 1 page in the printed item. Doing them a spreads makes more work for pre-press room pl us your PDFs are the then too wide to read onscreen.
you should do a few searches for "DIY print publishing australia" or "self publishing australia" or visit places like <www.fastbooks.com.au/selfpubfb.html> plus writer's organistions might be able to help: <www.nswwriterscentre.org.au>. Some printers also have online helpful info.
hope this what you're after?
Charles.

I dont know if you have already checked this, but you might want to look into it.
I used to work for a company who did a lot of desktop publishing etc. We used macs with InDesign on them. The biggest problem was finding a printer who used InDesign as well (this was about a year ago). You might just want to check up on that because back then, very few printers actually had it. We had to convert everything to PageMaker format or something else.

XFader, I dont know a damn thing about printing, but I do want to say that I had a look through the .pdfs and the beginnings of this mag look great, I really really like the photos and they way the text is layed out on the page. I'm curious thought, what software did you layout the doc with(InDesign I'm guessing) & did InDesign have the font for that "Team 82" wording? Anyway mate, it looks great! Good luck with it

Most printers have indesign now as the industry is becomming more and more computer based and as quark prices are too high for what it offers, many other programs are becomming the industry benchmark.
About the bleed, usually 3-4mm is sufficient, but i would have a talk to your printer just incase they need it to be more. A guilletinist (spelling?) will be cropping the job anyway so the more bleed the better i suppose.
As for the paper, If u want the cover i would use a gloss stock as it will add an extra dimension to your artwork. The GSm will be your biggest concern and it all depends on $$$ plus how u want it to look/feel. I would suggest somewhere between 100-200 gsm for the cover as it will give it the look and feel that it is a quality book etc. IMHO neway.

Alchemist,
I used dtp (desktop publishing) programs photoshop and indesign At a mates house becuase she has access to a mac with all these programs she uses for uni.. and since i havent done this sort of stuff in awhile for 2 years (back to design college days) thought i might give it ago.. i had my cammera with me and found my perfect backdrops snaps of my ride
So i though hey why not give it ago and maybe get it printed?
The font was a chopped up MR 2 Toyota font.. which looks great if you want the authentic mr2 supercharged text or twin cam 16 insignia look..
link -http://www.imoc.co.uk/download/download.asp?folde r=MR2+Font
and thanks for the comment *thumbs up*
Thug - Yeah i assume that they are.. I know at the actual work places and environments dont tend to upgrade to the latest version unless it benefits them in a big way. But like you say they should be upto date. Quark still is a great program.. but i chose to use the adobe range becuase it was there and mainly the ease i find with the tools and layout of the programs.
ill give it ago next week. ill take it to the printed in raw idd package and see how it goes..
