Hey Guys
Looking at buying a 1988 IG-GTE Soarer as a second car.
What are some of your opinions on the IG-GTE's performance?
What can you wind the boost up to on a standard IG-GTE?
How much at wheels approx does this yeild?
What is the most poular intercooler upgrade? 7M-GTE?
What are some popular little mods you guys have performed on your IG-GTE's?
Is BOV Atmospheric? what works best?
Thanks heaps any info would be great as I know nothing about IG-GTE's.
Cheers
Mick

Many people will argue that the 1GGTE is too small for a Soarer body. If you're looking for an all out performance car then it is, but you shouldn't be looking at a Soarer in the first place. They are capable in automatic form of about a mid 8 second 0-100 which puts it in the quick cruiser status. The 1G itself is a really nice smooth engine.
Many people wind the boost up to around 14psi and drive day in day out, there isn't much point as even though they are steel wheels, they would be way out of their efficiency zone.
Not sure if a Soarer that late would be Gen3 or Gen2 1GGTE, but for a Gen3 with a 3" exhaust that should be good for around 150rwkW or a bit less with a Gen2. This is using the factory IC.
You could upgrade to a 7M intercooler, but the outlets are all different and for the price and ease of installation I'd be looking at a custom intercooler or even a Jap-spec VR4/Lancer EVO intercooler.
Most popular mods would be 3" exhaust, boost controller and decent pod filter. You'd probably look from there at the intercooler and i'd say the turbos will be the next restriction.
They don't have a BOV standard, but because they have an AFM and not MAP then you'd need to have a recirculating BOV to prevent fuelling issues when you back off the throttle.
A GZ20 in good condition would be a nice comfy cruiser. My best mate has one and I don't think the smile has been wiped off his face yet
