oil pressure requirement

OK. Since I cant seem to find what the factory rated pressure relief point is for the 4AGE oil system, does anyone have information on oil pressure requirements for a similar engine? I know its different for many engines, but there are "rule of thumb" guides out there, I just cant locate them
Thanks in advance

well, many motors have about 40Psi.... the old TOSCO manual for the 3K puts a shim in the oil pump releif valve to jack that up to maybe 50-60psi, but some of the race kiddies leave it at 40psi with no probs.....
it's kind of more about flow than pressure, as far as the limiting factor goes, but no pressure is bad... aim for 40-50 and you should be golden....

I have an Autometer mech. oil press. guage fitted to my motor, & depending on how accurate it is, the oil pressure doesn't usually go above 80psi at normal op. temp., as far as I've watched it at high revs.
When it's cold it idles at 60-70psi (with 25W-70 oil ) and if I'm dumb enough to rev it too much it'll go over 80. But once it's properly hot it idles at 20 && doesn't seem to go much over 80.
Ive been looking into 4a oil pumps a bit lately, comparing the different types. I need one for my new motor & wanna get a good one. What are you up to?

What is the difference with the 20V pump? Does it offer increased volume, or is it the same as the 100kw 16V variants?
I was fairly certain that my GZE had similar pressure figures to your car Joel, about 80psi up high in the revs, but since fitting an oil cooler, it never gets above 65psi, hot or cold, so i'm thinking that the oil cooler system has posed a fair bit of restriction.
I went for a remote oil filter setup at the same time, there's probably 1.5 metres of 1/2"ID hose all up. I know the oil cooler core shouldnt be the problem, I had it previously running on my 3TGTE with 80psi+ everyday.
Cheers
Phil

Yeah I've heard the 20v pumps are a bit better, has anyone got one they wanna give to me? Otherwise a brand new one is around $200.
So phil ,what sort of oil cooler is it, the full flow or the bypass type? I've got a standard type bypass setup ready to go on the new motor, & with that & the feed for the turbo (although it's only tiny) I've been a bit concerned about the oil pump.
I've been looking at Bills site a bit, but I think he's got some pics the wrong way 'round, I hope. I have 2 pumps with me now, a 4AGZE one & a 4AC one. The GZE one looks like this:
and the 4AC looks like this:
But according to bills website, the first one is usually found in bigports, & the second one is usually found on all others. Has anyone else got any 4a oil pumps lying around?

I've used a billet aluminium block adapter & remote oil filter setup from Motorsport connections. The oil cooler core is from my previous 3TGTE. There is no thermostat in this system.
Let me know if you want email pics.

I'd be kind of interested to know about 4A oil pumps myself... Actually, I really SHOULD pull apart by busted (smallport) GZE and check it out a bit more carefully, ey!
