Hey Guys amd Girls,
Anyone know why the engine would be making a slight tamborine like sound it only does it when idleing, it was idleing low so i ajusted it then i changed all the oils and filters still getting this pesky sound its very faint but its definately there!
Had it looked at and i was told it was nothing, but i say nothing was there a few months ago now i have a musical instrument in my engine.

I have a 4A-GE in a ae92,
Any ideas???

Does the 4age have a timing chain or a belt?

Its got a timing belt!
Have been trying to listen to see what it is and it seems to be coming from just behind the engine head in between the the EFI system and head!

i had the same kinda problem once where i got that type of noise only at low revs and i was so certain it was coming from in the engine sounded like maybe the tappers until i one day did my alternator up a little bit tighter and the noise went one thing you learn about engine where you think the noise is coming from doesn't always means it actually is coming from there, check everything around your engine even the front numberplate.

go southside....better people Razz(where i moved from)
but from the seems of things while i was living in brisvegas(94-2002) all the car nuts live north side Smile

BTW i agree with GIN51E, my galant was purring like a kitten one day...shut her down for hte night and come the morning i start it up and there was a wierd tinny kind of rattle...ended up being the number plate...but took me nearly 2 hours to find the problem...i just got fed up and retightened everything

Definiately check belt tension/alignment. Belts can make this noise particularly when driving a pressed steel type pulley. If you have a heat shield around or near the exhaust they can also make this noise.
Good luck
