one option is to pick up a MA45 tacho as i did, but they are rare as... other option is to take it to an instrument place and get it re-calibrated...

There is a small variable resistor on the circuit board of the tacho. You (or an instrument store) can adjust this to calbrate it. I put a TA22 tacho into my Corona Mk2 and adjusted the varipot to give the correct rpm. I temoparily wired in another 6 cylinder tacho for calibration (I used a combined dwell angle meter/tacho actually).

Calibrating RA40 tacho's are a problem as there is not a vairable pot on the board. I have in the past provided two different instrument fitters with RA40 tachos for calibrating and they both said the time it would take to experiment with the circuit would be more than the job is worth. If anyone finds an instrument fitter that CAN do this job please let me know.

Sorry this is not what you want to hear. The MA45 option may be your best.

It would be a good learning experience! I work with electronics so i have a little knowledge of electronics Wink

Its just a matter of looking at the circuit and then connecting it to an engine with a taco already fitted then playing with some values!
