The battery just needs to be tested to see if the battery is the issue or something else is.

Auto electricians can test them in five minutes flat. If the battery doesn't fail the test you will know it is something else.

If you have a big sound system with more then one amp
before you turn off your car turn the system off and let the
car run for a couple of minutes.

make sure there is no resistance between the negative on the battery and the chassis of ya car...but definately get ya battery checked (this is usually a free service)...and id recommend getting it checked by a few diffrent places and compare results...some places will test ya battery and tell ya that its stuffed just so u spend money at their shop

use the 'ohms' setting for resistance.

if your alt is putting out 14+V, and the battery is not holding charge, it is most likely the battery getting tired.
you can go get it tested at K-mart Auto, or any auto elec. or just go buy a new battery....

Sydney K-marts have 20% off auto stuff next week. that's like $20 off a battery Very Happy go with something good, like an Exide Evolution, or some other heavy duty type... ya get what you pay for....

You should use the voltage setting on your multimeter to test between the negative of your battery and the chassis of your car! This will test a few things, one being if the voltage measured is higher than .4 of a volt this is one cause of corrosion Confused

Hi Leigh,
With the car engine, ignition, accessories, alarm and everything else turned off, disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery. Turn your multimeter to Amps and attach one probe to the positive battery terminal and the other probe to the battery cable you disconnected. Any reading will indicate battery drain. You could expect a small amount of current for the clock. Turn on your alarm and see how much that increases the current. Your alarm booklet should tell you how much current it will draw in both the off state and the on state. If the current drawn is significantly more than the alarm should draw plus say 20ma for the clock, you have an electrical fault or short somewhere. If little or no current drawn, your battery cells are probably clagged and you need to get the battery checked out as others have indicated. Cheers.
