i have 2 1996 rav4s one with the 3s-fe engine and the other with the 3s-gte engine .. i was wondering which one of them can be turbocharged without changing the engine and what parts are needed to do this job .. for example 3sgte head or what ? ( im talking serious , im going to start the project on one of my ravs withn the next 2 weeks .. )

I'm not an expert on engines at all, but from what I understand in the engine codes, isn't the "t" in 3S-gte stand for "turbo", 3S(engine family), G(DOHC),T(Turbo), E(EFI)? It might already have a stock turbo with low boost(say 4-6psi), thats my guess.

*edit* Making myself look less stupid Cool *edit*

I assume you mean one has the 3s-ge engine?

btw, G indicates wide angled "sport" cams, E indicates EFI

I would assume the 3s-gte would be an appropriate transplant to either one. not sure if the rav's gbox could take the extra power, but that would be your easiest option

they told me to transplant a 3sgte engine with its gear box into my rav .. but i think it is going to cost alot .. this is going to be my option if there is no other way to turbo charge any of them .. i want the power range of the engine to be something between 240HP to 320Hp ..

The 3SGTE is a straight bolt in and the RAV 4 box will take 250hp easy. If you do want a GrpA GT4 box i have one for sale and then you can crank up the hp as much as you like.

Turboworld does a turbo kit for the RAV4. It has a water to air intercooler, turbo and has a 320hp at the wheels power rating.
