difference b/w different 7m-ge's Fri, 19 July 2002 04:08 Go to next message
just been looking and noticed that the 7mge came out with two inlet manifold/plenum/throttle body configurations.

one has a straight single intake pipe leading to a throttle body mounted on the plenum. the other has the t/b mounted to a Y pipe which then bolts to the plenum.

whats the diff between the two models? performance difference?, which cars did they each come out with, and is there an advantage of one over the other??

cheers

From what I can tell the one with the Y come out in the supra's and the other Which is like the GTE come in the Cressida's.

Also the Y style has a butterfly in the plenium operated of vacumm which supposidly helps the intake charge get forced into the cylyder through pulses.
Or something like that, can't remember exactly its been a while since I was reading about it.
(man my spelling is bad)

on the N/A 2JZ-GE the y-pipe is there for the traction control system, the computer controls a butterfly that when needed closes to drop power from the engine.. the other butterfly is controlled by driver..

i dont know if this is relevant but i thought id mention it..

increases top end torque by playing with the harmonics in the plenum. only really good for NA engines. but thats a good thing!

are there any other differences between the two spec's of engine?

cheers
