4AGTE on ZE ECU Fri, 10 October 2003 04:42 Go to next message
Someone told me guys are doing ZE to TE conversions and running with the old ZE ECU. Whats involved with this? So far I have the ZE motor, CT26 from a 92 SW20 MR2, Inlet and Ex man is currently under construction. I want to do the conversion now (with engine still in the car) but no $$$ left for aftermarket ecu at this time. Will get a haltec later when I can afford it but for now how well will it work if I just bolt it all together? Confused

Just off the top of my head I seem to remember that MAP ECU's can put up with fairly standard levels of boost with a turbo, say 13 or so at the most, and an AFM ECU can take a fair bit more, but I'm sure there'll still be a few things you'll have to play around with.
But yes it is possible.

EDIT: just like what they're talking about in this thread!

HI, My car ran for a couple of years as a 4AGTE on the factory computer and AFM and a couple of years before that as a boosted supercharged setup (wanting to chase a bit more power meant the change to an aftermarket ECU).

The set up of the factory computer is no probs at all. There were no tricks to it, from memory the only thing that becomes completely redundant is the plug that switched the supercharger clutch on. I had thought about utilising this as a water sprayer switch for the intercooler. Just have a switch in the car when you want to run it, then the computer will only switch it on whilst off idle i.e. when the supercharger would normally have been on, or just ditch it is even easier.

Just keep all the sensors and you will be right with it. The RWD 4AGE manifold has spots for all the necessary ZE sensors. I think a couple wires had to be lengthened, nothing to hard. My brother owned my car when the transfer from supercharged to turbo was made and I only helped a bit with it so I think I have remebered all there was to it.

Mine was AFM and the standard ZE injectors were good for 14.5psi day in, day out. They were maxed at just over 15psi from memory.

Any other Q's just PM.

Cheers,
Shane

Im interested in this also .... can anyone tell me what exactly has to be moved/lengthened.

I also have a 4age head that has had a bit of work done to it. How hard would it be to run this head with the 4agze computer?
