Little electric fan help

Hi guys,
I just got another little electric fan which goes in front of the alternator.
Anyway, turns out my original one wasn't broken afterall...so I think there's something wrong with the sensor or something is refusing to turn it on.
Can someone please tell me how I can fix it so the thing turns on? When I give it 12V it works nicely...but it's just not coming on. Is there a way I can wire it so it turns on with the ignition?
This is what it looks like if it helps.

Thanks.

What car? Have you checked the sensor?

Its an MK3 supra.
And I don't know where the sensor is or what it looks like.

Have you looked on the radiator for anything that has a few wires going to it?
I'm sure someone here should know where it is

Well, there's 2 wires from the fan - just a positive and negative at the plug. And I can't follow from there.
Anyone?

That fan is triggered by one of the temp sensors on the thermostat housing. Make sure it's still hooked up properly as it's easy to knock it off or break the wire.

Thanks Norbie - I had a look at the wiring today...it all seems to be hooked up.
Doh - stuck!

Have you checked for a blown fuse? Failing that, trace the circuit from the fan back until you find the problem.

Cant find any blown fuses...
I was told that the fan turns on when the air cond is on...
But it still doesnt come on then anyway.
I'm thinking of hooking up a new relay ... any ideas which wire is best to use as a trigger?
I'd use ignition, but those wires are blocked off - extremely inaccessible.

How about taking it to an auto electrician?

I would but I know this is something I'd be able to do myself if I knew what trigger wire to use.
I'd rather go without a fan than to spend the $66 an hour at the auto elecs.
I'm going to test the wires behind the air cond unit so that the fan goes on when the aircond is turned on.
Don't know if it's possible or powerful enough as a trigger.
