American MK2 owner visits OZ

Greetings Guys!
I will be on vacation (holiday) in Australia from 5.Nov-5.Dec.
I'm really looking forward to this trip, as Oz has always
been on my must visit list.
I have a general iternerary (mostly traveling Eastern Oz).
If there are any events planned for this time, maybe I can fit this in.
And, if you are an astute traveler in OZ and know of
places to visit besides the standard tourist stops,
suggestions would be appreciated.
You can e-mail me directly at jdk@speakeasy.org

you're just going to miss the toymods megacruise
I recommend the Marble bar, PJ murphys, and then when they close, on to scruffy's. try some real beer
hunter valley is worth the trip if you enjoy wine
beaches!
depends what your interests are

Hunter Valley? Pfftt... Go to the Barossa Valley if you're in the Adelaide region... That's if you're into full bodied reds...
What're your interests? Then we can make suggestions.

The area I'm going to travel is like a large rectangle.
Darwin, Cairns, Tasmania to Adelaide.
My interests varies, so here's a general list.
Natural wonders (ie, Ayer's rock), Food and Wine (Oz Shiraz rules), scenic areas, various stops in metropolitan areas,
shopping for items I can't get here in the US.
I usually try to alternate metro areas with a place that
is more scenic and rural, some where I can just relax and
absorb the scenery.
I expect to drive three different areas. One section
of the coral reef, wine country (Barrosa and/or Hunter Valleys),
and possible the ocean road from Adelaide.
Every other stop, I'll fly (Oz is one big continent).

i really wouldnt bother with darwin during summer
its known as the wet season(you only get two seasons int he top end, wet and dry, none of this summer winter autumn spring bullshit ) and most of the good stuff happens dry season(after march and before octoberish(rough guide)
Cairns, well you have to go for a glass bottom tour of the reef
and if you're into diving\snorkeling i'd go for a trip doing that too
Also if you're feeling rich visit the witsundays area
Oh...and you have to go to the rainforest up there, very nice.
I would suggest going to the Gold Coast for the theme parks but you there are better parks in the states...but the women are awesome
And as Nark said, visit the hunter valley and do a vinyard\winery tour(usually get lots of taste tests )
Umm thats all i can think of at the moment.

pft
if youre a shiraz man, skip the hunter
they make pretty decent chardonnay, but barossa is the place to go for good shiraz (some of the best in the world actually)
while youre in the barossa, you can soak up the atmosphere of the adelaide hills - pretty nice area
if you like clubs, melbourne is the place to be - some very good clubs - the techno kind as well as the jazz kind
youre going to miss the jazz festival - its on here very soon (which is typically a wine & jazz festival actually)
most things between syd and melb are fairly boring. a few nice places to visit on the coast, wombeyan and genolan (spelling?!) caves are ok, but its a long drive for something that takes a few hours to see (and the roads are SHIT).
the drive along the great ocean road is pretty nice - sweeping bends, trees, ocean, etc. um - will post more when thesis needs more procratinating
Im always curious - why choose oz as your destination for an overseas trip?

East coast to me starts from about Brisbane and goes to Adelaide, but not including Tasmania...
Makes perfactly logical sense if you consider the fact that I'm from Sydney, and if you take Sydney as the centre of the east coast, it's prolly the same distance to Brisbane as it is to Adelaide...
I'm saving this one thunderbolt just for you Draven.... It's got "thesis" written all over it....

In no particular order...
I like to travel - it's therapy for the soul
Always wanted to visit Australia
Been to Europe twice
I'm fluent in Australian
I need to experience Spring/Early Summer.
Where I'm at, we had almost none.
Less geo-political tension than other places.
Fantastic round trip airline ticket price.
Met an Australian woman when I was in Munich, Germany.
Hoping her international travel schedule keeps her planted in Sydney.
I love to experience regional food and wine. Find exceptoinal wine, one will find exceptional food.
One trip to France made me a believer.
There are like minded MK2 owners there.

fair enough - just curiosity. asked the same thing of two gorgeous english girls who graced my company for a few months.
it's funny. aussies are crazy about the english girls. english are crazy about americans. americans are crazy about aussies
if you visit some of the country towns, they'll disagree that you're fluent in australian
Im sure some of the guys will be up for an "international" toymods cruise hell, it's more excuse than we have for most of our cruises

It is funny. In Europe, I was everything that the native male was not. I won't argue.
Only joking about being fluent. At my company, they needed
to send someone to Australia, and I mentioned I was fluent
in the language. Took them a second to figure that one out.
If you guys are flexible enough for a cruise or meet, let me
know where you guys are thinking, then I can plan my time better.

I'll be arriving and departing Sydney.
Probably a few days when I arrive, and when I leave.
A bit less stress, as it's a monster 14 hour flight.
Question. When does it get really hot and/or humid up in Queensland (eastern side)?
I'm thinking of going up the eastern coast the first 1.5 weeks
of November.

Thanks.
I want to visit QLD, so I have to endure the humidity.
I'm probably going up the east coast first, Darwin,
Alice Springs, Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania then
back to Sydney.
This a mix of flying and driving.
Wow, 3 weeks away!
(yes, the group buy ends 15.Oct GMT - 5 hrs. )
