Hi every 1.
My name's jon and I currently own a 1974/5 (unsure which) Corona.)Its an RT 104 with an 18R engine, and thats all I know. Could anyone give me a few ideas as to the best place to begin if I wanted to make this thing go faster. I'd buy a fast car but my corona has plenty of character and it really deserves a bit of speed and TLC. Any info would be greatly appreciated
Thanks heaps
Jon

get a differnt carbie ie a weber + decent air cleaner if you have the cash get extractors/exaust give it a good service and tune up, and you WILL notice a big differnce.

As the old saying goes: speed costs money, how fast do you want to spend?
The 18R-G is without a doubt the easiest engine swap and it's a good improvement over your existing engine. I wouldn't waste time modifying an 18R.

my impresion of banana man is he doesnt have a lot of mechanical experience which would sux if you want to do a conversion even if it is a strait bolt up and he could get the 18r to go quicker without spending huge amounts of $$$, but either way you would still have to pay someone to dit if you cant do it yourself.
fill is in Banana clan man!

Thanks a lot guys 4 sum startin pointz. Coronamark2 is bang on da bucks, I have little 2 no mech exp, the most I've ever done is take out the starter motor 4 replacement. That said I'm not a dumb sh*t and I acually want to do as much of the work as possible. What is an acceptable price range for a second hand Weber ( I know this is dependant on condition etc, ballpark would be superb)? An engine replacement is a little too massive 4 what I had in mind due to aforementioned lack of know how also funding is of prime importance. What knid of Weber would suit a 74 corona with 18r engine? I'll probably need an adaptor of sum description yeah?

Swapping in an 18RG isn't too hard provided you're keen to learn and and kid someone who know's how it's done to stand round and give a few pointers

To me swapping the entire thing over is probably a more straight forward exercise than swapping the carby over and setting it up right!

im not to good with webbers (ie witch would suit your engine) but you should be able to get one from a carbie place you will need an adaptor plate which you will be able to get from a spare parts place.
come one people where can he get a webber/adaptor plate/someone to put it on/tune it.
You would be able to pick one up for like $50 to $200 id assume then the adaptor plae would be like $30 - $40 and a carbie tuning place would slap it on there and tune it for no more than a $100 so say $300 all up this is just my guestamet.

Dude, I am a mechanical newbie thats why I said it!
There are a lot less connections external to an engine like an 18RG than all the fucking around with a carby which I know I couldn't do

your a mechanical newbie? arent you doing a conversion?
but i dunno anything about the 18r\g 's whatever so i can comment on what would be easier.
but i have pulled out my engine and everything in the engine bay when i got it rebuilt i recon the carbie swap would be A LOT easier my suggestion to banna man is find out from a carbie place how much they would charge you then find out how much you could do the engine swap for my money is on the carbie for chepaer option (hell there is some for sale in the for sale section aint there?) get one bring it to em and say i want this on there thanks

how long is this venture taking you?
a while and unless you have 2 cars it sux when you dont have one?
thats why i reckon the carbie would be the better option if you get some carbie guys to dit it would only take them a day then you can thrash it home nothing to worry about.
oh well we'll leave it to nanna

I've got most of the stuff ready to just chuck it in, I'm painting the body first and finding the time to do that takes a long time.
