	| Tranny Cooler sizing? | Mon, 13 October 2003 03:54 | | |
	| Hey all,

I'm thinking about installing a Serck (sp?) auto tranny cooler in my 1JZ. I'm just wondering about what size to go for? I'm guessing that if is too big I might have problems on cold winter days warming up the box. However, it probably won't be mounted in a good airflow spot (those are reserved for FMIC and radiator). Is the 15 row about right? ANyone have any experience and/or recommendations?

 cheers,

 Justin

	| Haven't had any problems with mine. It's 300x200x30mm. Works really well. Gearbox temps are way down on what they used to be. Especially after a hard drive, the box is barely warmer than when idle. | |

	| I've got a serck i think (cant remember but 90% sure). It's a 13 row 13x10" on my 1JZ.
Its doing the cooling on its own (no rad cooler) and doing the job fine. Basically i was told the bigger the better if youre fitting a standalone. you can of course go too big and the box wont drop into overdrive.. but it would have to be MASSIVE for that to happen.

	| If you are worried about airflow, use some ducting to get extra air to the cooler. Also, I have just finished a fan setup for my transcooler that uses 2 12 cm 12volt fans from dick smith. They are strapped to the cooler like thermos to a radiator, and I have them switched so they come on as soon as the engine oil pressure switch trips out (ie they turn on as soon as the engine is running). I can give you the wiring details if you like. As for being too big-don't worry-as mentioned above you'd need a f***en monster one to keep it too cold!

	| i know nothing about trans coolers but i got mine for free with my car. I have heard there are 2 different types. Mine is about 30cm X 20cm and has tubes going through the fins. It is working 'stand alone'. Will this do the job adequately? I will put a pic up when my damn computer is fixed! | |

	| You mean the engine rad? It's a koyo drop in for the JZA70. got it from these guys in the states. www.performanceradiator.com
Cost in AUD is $720 for the rad, plus shipping and import tax, duty etc to the UK it came out at about $1000 AUD (£450 UK).. not cheap. It's also a VERY tight fit in the JZA70. Its nearly twice as thick as stock and 10mm higher.
