How much does it cost for a HKS MHG in Australia?

Hey,
How much is it to buy a HKS metal head gasket for a 7M engine in Australia? I'm after a 3mm thick one which is US$275, according to the HKS USA website. I gotta know if it's worth the trouble in getting my relos to buy it and bring it with them when they get here.
Thanks

I think it's somewhere between $500-$700.

I know this is a very nieve question, but why would you want a 3mm head gasket on a 7m for? And particularly why would you need a HKS one?

I was hoping of picking up MX83TOY's 7MGE and one day turbocharging it. I read somewhere that I should get a 3mm one to lower the compression. So reason why I asked was so that I can buy a thick one now since my relos are coming from the USA and it might be cheaper if they bought it for me before coming down. But they are coming soon so I kinda have to hurry up and find out as much info asap or else I'll just keep it n/a and live with it. And HKS because I can't find anyone else that makes one 3mm. GReddy has a 2mm one...but I figure that if I go do a turbo upgrade, then a 3mm would be better...also Dean Marcum says that a 3mm one would be better.
???
Thanks for the responses guys...
I thought that this msgboard would let u know via ICQ when someone posts?? Didn't work for me!

The one thing I have every realised is never to rely on any one for any thing Any way back to the story, have you picked up the phone and called Ridgecrest who are in Melbourne. They made mine and a mates copper head gaskets (2.0mm), mite be worth a call to see if they can make a thicker copper or a steel one

Never heard of Ridgecrest...are they expensive?
I went to Toyota spare parts today to find out prices of stuff and order certaint things and the bitch wouldn't tell me anything coz my car is an import. Dumb whore she was...so rude!!

Just phoned my mate, his head gasket was for a 3sgte 2.0mm thick, $115.00 deliveried to his door in Newcastle. If you can't wait until tomorrow for the phone number try looking in a hot 4s mag they usually advertise in there.

Its cool, I can wait, thanks for the info mate! Appreciate it heaps! I got heaps of time to make a decision...about the head gasket thickness anyway.
And are these cooper head gaskets reliable??
I dont exactly want head problems..
I dont even know if MX83TOY is selling me his engine??
He hasn't replied to me lately...

I read somewhere that altering the compression ratio on 7m engines with a head gasket is not really recommended. I am not sure if this is just for the 7m engines or the reasons behind it... (Anyone?)
As for the head gaskets, go for the grommet type since it has an extra seal ring like the factory gasket and are the hardiest.
I am not sure if HKS makes grommet types for 7m engines. I know that they have bead and stopper types for various compression ratios ranging from US$150 to about US$ 400.
Cheers

$450, that alright, expensive, but better than $700!!!
Is there a reason why u cant run lower compression through a head gasket?
Coz I was wanting to do this and run turbo

I got a price a while ago from ridgecrest and it was $200 for a 2mm i think. But having done the 7m NA-T thing i wouldn't worry about it. Make sure the block surface is okay(flat and straight)and that the head is also the same and get some headstuds and bolt it down. It's unlikely you would be running much more than 10-15psi with this type of setup anyway. Dean Marcum claims 400rwhp running 14psi so there is little need to run much more. A stock head gasket and studs will survive fine at this boost level(as long as a good state of tune is kept). This allows you extra cash for other things you will need if you do this.

Hey man!! Have u actually done a NA-T before???? Like what Dean Marcum has done???
I'm actually interested in the process of what to do....are you able to provide me with some details of what u require???
I actually want to do this but I feel kind of loss trying to attempt it without knowing the other things I may need to run turbo at stock boost on a NA engine.

couple of things i picked up in this thread....
the reason why the compression ratio shouldnt be lower with a head gasket is because it throws off your cam timing. sure you can get adjustable cam gears or you could just do what i do and dont worry about it
when you turbo an NA engine you need to worry about a couple of things- detonation- BAD. u can stay away from detonation with lower boost, better IC, retard timing. also youll need to make sure youve got the right fuel ratios. typically NA motors have smaller injectors than their turbo counterparts. you can either swap out the injectors (if your ecu will handle it) or increase the fuel pressure under boost (via rrfpr) to give you the right ratios when boosting. wrong ratios will grenade your engine and do lots of damage. im only just starting to learn this lesson.
atm my 5M-GTE runs about 7-8psi, with no IC, and malpassi rrfpr which is maxed out. it pings a little bit at high rpm, which should be fixed when i get time to work on it in the uni holidays

What a pain in the ass to get turbo running on an NA engine. Hmmm...maybe I should slowly do it instead of rush it or perhaps buy a 7MGTE and do it easier.
Still would like to do a NA-T though.
If the cam timing is wrong does it effect the running of the engine in a major way?

if the cam timing is off, youll notice a little less 'get up n go'
sure its a pain in the ass to do a turbo-NA jobbie, but this is just what you *should* do. When i did my 5M-TE conversion I just whacked on the turbo and away i went. However it pinged like crazy whenever on boost (ie over 2000rpm), and ran hot. the problem? Found out my compression ratio was about 10:1 When i did the 5M-GTE conversion, as first I just whacked on the turbo again and away i went. No problems, and didnt even notice any pinging. however the rrfpr is just there for a little bit of added safety
sticking in a GTE would be better in terms of engine life- as the internals are stronger, and have oil squirters and such. but it will be much easier to just bolt on a turbo to the NA.

Detonation is the killer. I have a MSD boost retard on order to fix this. When I originally bolted the turbo on I installed the turbo injectors but had trouble with it running rich, really rich. I couldn't remove enough fuel with the S-AFC to compensate. In the end I reinstalled the stock injectors and bypassed the fuel pump resistor and added fuel with the S-AFC. This has made it much better. Timing is another question. As I'm still waiting for the boost retard to show up I have had to play around a bit. I have retarded the timing a little and screwed the knock sensors in very lightly to so it's not so sensitive. This does work but hurts power. You have to play with the throttle a bit to stay away from the knock sensor pulling timing out of it which basically kills the engine. I'll get it right one day. As for doing it, unless you can get all the bits cheap and enjoy getting dirty I proberly wouldn't do it. One of the reasons I did it was because alot of poeple would tell me it wouldn't work. Alot of time has to go into setup and tuning which I am still learning about through trial and error. In the long run it would have proberly been cheaper to do a GTE swap(almost certain).

Hey here's an idea.
Why dont you just set the timing back on your dizzy????? Then there is a blanket timing change accross the whole map. A few degrees down low wont hurt performance cause you have high compression and up top no detonation.
Is your engine shuting down from detonation or too much airflow because a computer will just retard the timing if detonation is present not shut it down.

the engine doesn't shut down, as the computer pulls timing out it falls over and loses most of its power. I have pulled the base timing back. It's set at 5deg at idle. Up high its fine. Part throttle is were the problem is,you can't really use full throttle until 3500-4000rpm then its fine. I wish I could see a GE compared to GTE timing curve as I have heard the GE's are very aggressive, it would be interesting to see the difference.

Whats the best way of dropping compression to suit a turbo better?
I was thinking the head gasket could do it...
Anyone have the number to Ridgecrest?
I dunno if I wanna do a NA-T anymore...seems like too much work and money.
Do you think it would be better to just turbocharge the 1G-GEU instead? I just want low boost with nice cooler noises. N I've heard a VL running 5psi with nice loud cooler noises. I kinda want that stuff!
