	| when its xmas, can we make it somewhere cool?
 mini-cruise...
 a rainforest like mt tamborine?
somewhere near samford, perhaps up in the hills?
top end of redcliffe for greasy chips?

maybe a mega cruise to north of noosa? or mt tamborine the backway via beaudesert (spell?), o'riellys and the Canungra army barracks? (well, anywhere that way except the rathdowney pub as it's full of people who thought 'deliverance' was a training video) or maleny ? (maybe not, lots of tourists there on w'ends
  )
and maybe by december my Megasquirt will be powering the mighty 18R

And definitely make sure the roads are twisty
Only thing is I'll look like a tourist as I'm finally changing the Qld rego over after 2.5 years (but I've only just brought it down from Queensland last week, officer)

 Hope to see you there.

	| Sounds like a few of us southeners are going to be invading the Sunshine state just after Christmas. Maybe have the cruise between boxing day & New Years, most people won't be working then (yes I know the cops will be out, but that shouldn't worry us law abiding citizens

	| to help choose a route, i've put PDFs of two maps covering SeQ on my server (these are very BIG, download only if you need to): <http://members.optushome.com.au/mkhala/red_celica/ drive_map/>
Numbers below only refer to highway numbers on maps above.

I was going to suggest as possible treks:
 start Mt Cootha
 head to The Gap
take <31> to Mt Nebo (instead of going via Samford)
 onto Mt Glorious
 stop for lunch
go west then north to Dundas (at back of Wivenhoe dam)
then up to Somerset Dam to look at large body of water (swim?)
 go south-west to Esk
take <17> back to Brisbane via Somerset Dam (not swimable?)
take Ipswich bypass instead of going into town
stop at Colleges Crossing (Moggill) for off-highway stop (swim?)
folks head home via western suburbs or back out onto Ipswich Rd back to city

 or

 start Mt Cootha
head to Samford via The Gap, Keperra, Ferny Grove, etc
stay on <22> and head to Dayboro
climb Mt Mee (lots of twisty corners and sweepers!)
stop after Mt Mee village for a break
 up to D'Aguilar & Woodford
turn right onto <53> and go to Maleny via Stanmore, Cedarton
(road from there to Maleney is sealed and good - map out of date?)
stop for lunch outside of Maleny (is full of yuppies on days-off)
 go down range to Landsborough
then over to Caloundra (or to Mooloolaba)
or head bank down old highway to Brisbane
(via Beewah, Beerburrum, Cabulture, Morayfield, etc)

Alternatove ending for this is to
 after lunch
return (following our tracks) from Maleny
head west to Kilkoy when you get to the <85>
 down to Somerset dam
 cross river south of dam
head for Brisbane Forest Park and onto Mt Glorious
option ot return home via Samford/Ferny Grove or
the windy road right to th Gap.

 A southward suggestion was:
head south to Jimbomba on <13>
 go south-east to North Tamborine
 drive up Tamborine Mt
 stop for break
 on to Upper Coomera
then head south via Maudsland and Mount Nathan
 turn right before hitting Nerang
 then south to Advancetown
further south then a choice of Natural Bridge or
Purlingbrook Falls and onto Springbrook (my pref.)
return by same route or join Motorway at Nerang.

My bike-riding mates suggest going all the way to NSW:
 highway to Beaudesert
 onto Rathdowny
cross border via the Lions Road
 stop at Woodenbong
 South east to Kyogle
 up to Murwillumbah
then on to the coast highway before back to Brisbane on Motorway
but it's a big day of driving

the maps came from Touring Atlas from Hema Maps (sorry for scanning your book) - i'll bring it to test-n-tune if requested.

oh, sorry about the moire patterns in the tinted areas of the maps - i couldn't be bothered to de-screen 'em when scanning.

 Charles.
