guide to buying a KE55 rolla Mon, 13 October 2003 13:24 Go to next message
ok im in the market for a KE55 rolla, want one that is manual, has a nice body (preferably with nice paint!), nice interior and rego, engine/gearbox/diff not important, just have to be good enough to pass a roadworthy/rego transfer (13BT to take its place)...

my sister in law used to have a pretty nice KE55, had a/c that worked really well! but appart from a crappy slushbox and poorly tuned carby, it was quite tidy ...

where abouts to these cars rust out? anything i should check out along with the usual used car inspection kinda things?

thanks

rust, bottom of front 1/4's, roof, rear wheel arches, near tail lights.

since you are chaning struts, engine, box, diff, mech should not worry you at all, so don't bother looking.

just look for accident damge and terminal rust, same as for and transplant car...

good luck...

you can engineer a 13BT in a KE55 in vic?? you might want to put in a cage to stop the chassis twisting

thanx for the info!

you can engineer basically anything in victoria, just look at rod hadfields merlin powered chev! 3000hp 27L supercharged V12!

it just has to be safe (3000hp safe? they must have connections at vic roads) and meet all standards/emissions ect ect

plenty of R100's with 13bts registered around here and they weigh a good 100kg less than a rolla

hopefully the chassis wouldnt be too much of an issue with about 300hp on tap... see how it goes!

Also for rust, check under the sills, around the chassis rails, in the spare tyre well and under the rear window (in the boot).

I've seen KE55's with chassis rails (esp under the battery) needing rebuilds.

Mine has rust in the sills, rear wheel arches, spare wheel well and under the rear window...
