Jab what?!!?!
What are the main obsticles in turboing an AFM 4AGZE? Tue, 14 October 2003 03:12 Go to next message
Can someone please outline the main obsticles in turboing an AFM 4AGZE, and maybe a quick description solution?
Is twin turbo a applicable solution?

I rememeber reading you come across a certain amount of more problems than when using a MAP sensored version.
Any positives to the AFM system?

The version I have access to is the one out of the MR2.

And can someone suggest an ECU and price that could handle all the transitions from:
*Standard 4AZGE
*Upgrade with Nevo pulley
*Turbo upgrade.

Thankyou sincerely all you Toymodders and Toymoderaters and even the Toyboyers haha.

Do a search, its been done before,

But from the top of my head, the MAP computer maxes out at around 14psi, whereas the AFM can read flows for higher boost pressures still.

Main problem you'll have is amking a custom turbo manifold and fitting a strong gearbox (if its RWD). Also the distributor on the MR2 4AGZE will be harder to get setup right than the later twin coils.

Apart from that there is little to stop you turboing it. Do it, you will fly. I feel twin turbos would be a waste of time and money, it is a small enough engine anyway, a single will do fine.

Freak why is a dizzy harder to set-up right than the twin coils?
i have had no dramas what so ever with mine. (apart from blowing my 1st gte up)...Laughing
the turbo manifold and swapping stuff thats needed over from a donor 4age (alternator and brackets, and a few more) are the only tricky bits really.
set-up (pipe work etc.) is a breeze once you get into it.
if the you are going to run moderate boost say less than 14psi, the factory gze ECU will do.

as Henn said, do some internet searching. there as sooooo many 4agte engines out there that ideas etc. are easy to find.
