1JZ Fuel System Q's Tue, 14 October 2003 05:00 Go to next message
Hi

Im doing a 1JZ conversion and just wanted to clear a few things up:

1. Does the fuel supply go into the pulse thingy at the rear of the engine?
2. Is that a rising rate regulator that sits on the front of the fuel rail, and will it still be suitable for my Bosch 044 pump and Haltech management? Does anyone know what it's base pressure is set at?

Cheers Smile

1. There is a pulsation damper on the end of the fuel rail, if that's what you mean.
2. There is a fuel pressure regulator on the other end of the fuel rail, but it's not a rising rate fuel pressure regulator. It will work with any EFI pump, provided it flows enough to suit your horsepower requirements of course. Base pressure should be somewhere around 35psi.

Norbie: What does the vacuum/pressure line on the regulator that pulgs into the inlet manifold do then?

i would guess it is a standard vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator..
you only really need rising rate when you are trying to use a stock computer to do what it is not meant to.

if you went to an aftermarket computer, you would not use a rising rate reg.

Riddle me this Robin? Question for all the experts, if that funny little bellows on the end of the fuel rail does not increase rail pressure, then could someone please explain to me why --- my fuel pressure rises, with a rise in boost?. Checked with a fuel pressure guage teed into the fuel feed line. Stock computer, and a fuel pump, totally independent of the computer.

regards Chuck.

oh no batman!!!!!!! call the cavalry Wink
who said it doesn't increase pressure??
i should have said "manifold pressure referenced fuel pressure regulator"

a standard fuel pressure regulator serves to simply keep the fuel rail pressure a "fixed pressure" above the manifold pressure (be it vacuum or boost).

a "rising rate" regulator has a different manifold pressure/fuel pressure ratio.. ie the fuel rail pressure rises faster than the manifold pressure (for boost).. afaik, most rising rate regs work as standard regs when manifold has vacuum

standard is 1:1

rising rate is greater than 1:1 (like 2:1 or 3:1 etc) rising rate are way to get around using programmable ECU but are not a very good way to do it (particularly if you are running decent boost... you risk overpressuring the injectors)

this is basic EFI information. now you know Very Happy

whats this 1jz going into .. yes bosch 044 will support about 6-700hp .. haltech has no control over your fuel pressure

is this car previously efi ?? or u convert it to efi ..eg surge tank or baffles in the tank

Thanks for the help guys, but still no one has properly answered whether or not the fuel supply goes into the pulsation damper?

slylux: The 1JZ is going into a Landcruiser LJ71G, it's a Japanese import version of Australia's Bundera. I realise the Haltech does not control the fuel pressure, just giving a bit of info on my setup thats all. The car was a 2.4 turbo diesel, so yes I made an 8 litre aluminium surge tank mounted next to my transfer case. It is supplied by a 100L/hr @ 4 psi pump. Surge has 8mm supply line and 6mm return back to the tank. Supply and return from the fuel rail to the surge are 8mm.
