its got 145bhp in 1st generation, and 165hp 2nd generation. Called 5mGE. A few people in America have put ct-26's on them with relative ease, though the bottom end needs work for big hp. So in reality, one with 200,000km on it is not going to get you big hp when its old and tired. No harder to work on than a 5me.

if your considering putting it into your RA65 then forget about it. too much hassle for too little gain.
u might be able to buy this engine cheap but u will end up spending too much money trying to fit it into you RA65.

The stats Robbo quoted are for the US 5MGE which is unlikely to be the one you'll be buying.
The two Jap-spec 5MGE's are around ~170hp and ~175hp. The later model ones in our Cressidas were around ~170hp too.
I'm with Robbo on this one though, they aren't the sort of engine you'd want to put into an RA65. If you had an MA61 on the other hand it'd be a cheap way for some extra balls

He was talking about the physical dimensions of the engine, which is pretty much the same for all M series engines.

5MGE is a headfuck motor to work on.
It and the 6MGE are out there on their own with their kooky valve activation mechanism. I would buy one as a replacement but certainly not as a motor to start tweaking (unless you planned on turbocharging it).

There isn't such a thing as a 5MTE manifold, there is an MTEU manifold.
Hehe, they are odd, hence it'd be one of the first things I rip out

coronamark2 wrote on Wed, 15 October 2003 15:39 | GT i was looking on the crown site and that dude with the 5mteu in the ms75 is changing engines whats he doing with the 5m?
just a question did he use the 5mteu manifold or did he get a custom one? Did he get an aftermarket HG or have one made?
last one is it possible to bolt a 5mteu manifold on to the 4m head (basically i want to turbo the 4m)
|
I think he sold the 5M ages ago, it was advertised on these forums about 2yrs (a fair while anyway!) ago? Not sure what head gasket he used but he had to get the motor O-ringed as it kept blowing head gaskets Also I think he was using the M-TEU manifold (most likely modded). Pic He is on these forumns as MS-75 by the way.
Were there two version of 4M early and late, can't remember if it was 2M's that there was two versions or 4M's, think it was 2M's anyway?
Anyway from the pics of your engine that I've seen it looks like an M-TEU manifold will fit ...(thank gianttomato for the pic )

Sean sold his 5MTE (minus turbo) about 2 years ago to Matt in Adelaide who drives an MX10.
If you can find an MTEU manifold it will bolt to your 4M CMk2 (you have the right vintage head). I'd then convert to EFI using a 5ME manifold, loom and ECU. If you can't source the turbo, no big deal. Any T3 turbo will do (VL turbos are everywhere and cheap). The most important thing is the MTEU dizzy - it is configured to produce 15 degrees of boost retard.

cool i try and track down a dead 5mteu
I have heard from a lot people that you can get custom electronic ignition to go into the dizzy would this have the same affect? or say if i had an aftermarket ecu wouldnt you be able to make it retard the timing 15 degrees on boost (with electronic ignition that is).
on that note what cars came with the 5mteu.
thanks dude
Hows yours going?

Seriously dude....the results won't be scintillating for the money you'll end up spending (considering you're talking aftermarket ECUs and modifying distributors). You would do far better to plough money into a 7MGTE.
Talk to Kevozr (who is in Perth and had one) or to Sean to get their take.

I saw an MTEU manifold at a wrecker in adelaide with turbo attached.
I am not sure if it is still there but I reckon it might be.
City Auto Dismantlers, I think they wanted about $500 for it ages ago.

with the amount of money i've all ready spent on my car a bit more wont hurt and if i was going to go a 7m id want all aftermarket stuff for that motor and some of the prices for the aftermarket engine gear is pretty $$$.
so wanna sell your mteu manifold?
