Not possible. Not without insane amounts of engineering anyway.
Methinks you should learn a few basics about cars before you get too carried away with crazy ideas...

How would you do that considering the MR2 is a midmount engine? Has there ever been a FWD rotary engine/gearbox package?
Not saying it isn't possible, coz anything is, but for the time and money spent you could have a stonking 3s gte setup.
Try http://www.megaboost.co.uk/mr2/frames/usefulmr2lin ks.htm
For info on how to power up the SW20 - in particular Phoenix Power (you'll need babelfish unless you can read japanese).
Having something completely unique doesn't always mean it's fast or good.

D'oh - Now I remember a 13B powered VW (from Fast Fours and Rotaries circa 1992!!). Was a Porsche killer from memory, and a horrible pink colour.
Why didn't you say the main aim was to get it in a magazine?!! That's a totally different proposition to modifying it for reliability, performance, useability and driveability.
Just spend heaps of money, do something wacky (like a 13B turbo, a 4wd conversion, a twin turbo-ed V6, or a single cyl staionary engine with twin heavy flywheels). You'll get on the cover no worries, be famous, chicks will dig you and it'll be all smiles....
Or get twin strippers/porno actresses!

im thinking about taking the rear spoiler off aswell....not many around perth without rear spoilers (not many MR2's in perth with spoilers either )

Yes, what ARE you on? A Beetle has a rear-mounted engine, not mid-mounted, which makes a 13B conversion very easy. It's a completely different arrangement to an MR2. One wonders if you've even looked inside your own engine bay!

Of course it's possible, but as I said in my first post, "not without insane amounts of engineering". Go ahead and do it if you want, I'll be the first to congratulate you.

VW BEETLES ARE NOT MID MOUNT.
Think about it... have you seen one...?
Engine is behind the rear wheels = REAR MOUNT
Engine infront of rear wheels but behind front wheels = MID-MOUNT
Engine infront or over front wheels = FRONT MOUNT
MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Food for thought.

One of the guys on the MR2 international owners club forum started on this project but in an AW11. He stopped when he realised that the exhaust ports are exactly where the output shaft from the gearbox has to go.
Sure this can be worked around with bulk money but whether it's worth it or not is another matter.
If I were trying to do something different to an SW20 I'd be looking for a NSX half cut and put in a sweet 3.2L V6 with six speed box. That would be a head turner and go rather nicely.
The thing about these conversions is that either of them will be far more expensive than building a 3SGTE with twice as much power.
