TA22 Supsension & Brake upgrade Fri, 17 October 2003 01:49 Go to next message
I'm planning on upgrading the brakes and suspension of my car before i undertake an engine conversion. If i was to upgrade all suspension components first and than do a brake conversion with new struts, what work has to be done for the suspension to be adapted.

Depends what struts you use... My suggestion is to make sure you think about EVERY part BEFORE you change anything, then do it all at once. Evil or Very Mad

i replaced my struts and springs with king springs and monroe GT gas...not too hard a job actually tho i'm stuffed now after doing it.

if you're going the XT130 brake upgrade, do the struts and the new shocks at the same time...and new springs too i think.

depends what motor u wanna put in, mx62 cressida struts go in easily, they have 248mm vented discs (still a sliding caliper but work awesome) and will fit in a 13" rim still. if u want any details on what i used and how i did it let me know. oh and its a cheap upgrade, my whole upgrade cost me less than $200

you will need to get complete mx62 cressida struts. and get the steering arms that bolt to the bottom of the strut off an ra60/65 celica. use the std ta22 control arms ( you will have to modify the bracket the stops u going past full lock ), bolt the ra60 str arms onto the std ta22 balljoints. put the springs, top spring seat and strut top off the ta22 onto the cressida struts. bolt the struts in, i think the std ta22 brake lines will do the job (i had new cressida ones sitting at home so i used them) bolt the tie rod end onto the steering arms adjust so u dont have rediculous toe in and thats basically it. fairly simple only took me an hour or 2 to do plus a few to figure out how to do it....

sorry guys i forgot to mention u will have to move the bottom spring seat down an inch or so, otherwise when u put it all together ur car will be an inch higher than it was. its probably an idea to put the ta22 seat on it will make the spring sit in much better. and if ur getting new shocks try for some with a shorter stroke.

ben, the xt130 is a bolt in affair using xt130 struts and custom springs, the mx62 sounds like modifications are required to the spring seat ect for optimum workability.

however if you then go the pug/hilux option, then work is needed around the hat of the rotor...with washer to space the caliper correctly for even pad wear.

qik22 out of interest, if you had custom springs and a WAY shorter length strut on the mx62 affair would you need to bother moving the spring seat?
