Does anyone know about acid cleaning where I can get it done or what chemicals are used???
I want to clean a gearbox and a few other parts.
I once seen a car at an exaust place which had a acid cleaned gear box it looked brand new you could have eaten off it. The guy wouldnt tell me where he got it done couldn't speak english.
Any info would be helpfull thanks.

If your gearbox has an alloy case, I wouldn't use acid or alkaline salts, it will eat it away! Use a hydrocarbon base solvent, for small discolourations, or get it blasted, either wet or dry, but plug everything up if you plan on doing it to a complete box - the grit gets in everywhere! Wet blasting would be my weapon of choce!

i used diluted pool acid to clean down an alloy tray, worked great but dont leave it on too long or you wont have a gearbox any more Shocked
