V160 Clutch

I am converting a 1JZ engine from auto to manual by fitting a complete V160 package.
The clutch plate was very new - almost no wear on the plate at all. When I fitted the pressure plate I think that it doesn't have much pressure onto the clutch plate.
How many millimetres should it compress onto the plate. By my measurements it is only about 0.5mm difference between no pressure and fully bolted up. I would have expected it to be much more.
The manual doesn't give a measurement for the pressure plate to check clearances before fitting.
Any thoughts??

Not on topic, but let me know how the conversion goes please. Very interesting conversion you've chosen.
I'm about to convert the Soarer from auto to manual, but just with the R154. Hopefully it won't be too much of an issue. I can just forsee silly electrical issues.

Was this V160 behind a GE or a GTE?
I have my old flywheel/clutch assembly sitting in the shed, I'll take a look at it this evening and get you some measurements to compare against.

Thanks for that - I need to know how much distance between the pressure plate and flywheel if there was no clutch plate in there. Then I can work out how much squeezing there is onto the clutch.
I suspect that the pressure plate is fatigued and lost some if its pressure. The clutch plate was almost new - there is very little signs of wear and still at least 1mm to the rivet heads. The manual says the minimum here is 0.3mm so there is plenty of life left in the clutch.
I may have to buy a new pressure plate to get the correct pressure.
Let me know what you find.

Distance between pressure plate and flywheel with no clutch plate = 6.603mm.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I'll drop the gearbox off, remove the clutch plate and refit the pressure plate. If mine is close to that measurement then I can assume that it is safe to use.
I just don't want to fit the motor and gearbox and then find that the pressure plate was no good. At least while it is out of the car it will be easy to check.

Measured clutch today and have 6.8mm with no cluch plate. i assume that this means my pressure plate is OK.
The clutch plate measures 8.5mm and there is 1.3mm to the rivets. The book says 0.3mm minimum to the rivets so there is approx 2mm life in the clutch plate.
When the clutch plate is worn right down there will be no pressure from the pressure plate??
Doesn't make sense to me.
Anyone got any thoughts on this.

If it was originally behind the N/A 2j, I'd say the pressure plate would have less clamping force compared to it's turbo counterpart - I'm only making an assumption on this, and assumptions aren't a good thing
I just measured the drive plate thickness - 9.168mm
Unsure of the total kms on this clutch, probably 35,000kms give or take a few thousand.....

i thought that manual 2jz-ge's got the W58 where as only 2jz-gte's got the uber awesome V160

Manual 2JZ-GE Supra's came with the W58 standard, but the V160 was optional.

Norbs,
I could be wrong, but I thought the 2JZ-GE JZA80s came with a v161 rather than a v160? (v161 ratios were more suited for the NA power spectrum and the final drive ratio?).

You could be correct. I'm sure Stenno will know.
