Hey guys i want to heat wrap my extractors to reduce under bonnet temps, but was told the other day that it is no good as after about 6months your extractors will crack?? just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences or can shed some light on the subject.
cheers

if the welding isn't up to scratch, then maybe retaining more heat in the pipe might lead to cracking - but i'd say that's a symptom of crap welding?
there's a few posts about this recently - the right mix of HPC coating(s), wrapping hot pipes, reflective insulation on sensitive bits, and good cooling system should do wonders for underbonnet temps.

ceramic coating is the way to go - I don't think cracking is the issue so much, but rusting is!

i have seen and removed many set of extractors from v8 that have been wrapped up
thing is the get so hot under the tape that it makes the steel extremely brittle (that how its spelt?)
i wouldnt recommend it
but also rusting is another major problem with them
