KA or KG KYB's? Mon, 20 October 2003 00:32 Go to next message
looking through the KYB catalogue, and it seems KA nd KG shocks are both pimped as their top of the line.
KA is labelled as ultimate driver performance", KG has a list of benefits longer than my arm.

the KAs are 3-stage double action
the KGs are gas shocks.

any ideas on which is better? by better, I of course mean better handling

whats the price difference man? I'm due for some new ones on the rear of mine. Have the gas ones up front and they made a massive difference Smile

paul - go to north parra auto one
theyll set you up with a pair VERY cheaply - $50 cheaper than anywhere else I could find, and $70 cheaper than most ($100 cheaper than 1 place)
of course, once I found them this cheap I stopped looking Smile

I had a question for you, but I cant for the life of me remember what it was

edit: that's right. what brake pads are you using, and are they good & low dust?
I'm really happy with my current ones in performance terms, but theyre REALLY dusty, and its very frustrating trying to keep the rims clean

try keep your rims clean when you park in a dirt lot....damn thing sings to me as i'm pulling out "we need to see your tyres spin untill the rear end flicks out uncontrollably"

....i'm not one to shut out the car voice in my head

actually, its not just the rims that get muddy\dusty....whole car was once pretty, covered in red mud from half way up my windows down to the rubber

took me AGES to wash her after that Sad

anyways back to the point
what kind of difference would KA\KG kyb's make over the shitty munro's i've got now?

Ive just ordered kyb shocks for my ae86
I did heaps of research on these shocks, heaps of shopping around and thats what i strongly reccomend.i started at a price of 900 for kyb shocks and lovell springs and i ended up with nearly half that price.im getting 36 series KYB shock on the front and KG series on the rear.KG is a harder shock then the 36 series.I really dont know much about the KA series as they dont make them for the AE86.

KA Series? An oil shock
KG series? An Mono gas shock
KC series? An oil strut cartrige
330000? An oil leg assy
340000? An Twin Tube Gas Leg assy
360000? An Twin Tube Gas cartrige

I know these shocks arnt the best but they are better than 20yr old standard shocks.Once i install them i'll let you guys know how they are.

yeah i would of loved to have hard all round.
But kyb have only one type of shock for the front of the ae86 and 3 types on the rear. The front being a normal gas shock and out of the 3 available i decided to get the hardest out of the 3.
