Timing on 16v 4age HELP ME PLEASE.

Hey,
I've now got all the info i need to do the timing on my car. But i cant find the diagnosis plug aka "check connector".
where abouts is it on a 4ac ae86 converted to 4age?
i've tried front left strut tower and firewall but cant find the damn thing. Im thinking the guy who did the conversion forgot to wire it up or something. I cant bypass the T and E1 terminals so there for i cannot stop the ecu controlling the timing, so no matter what i do the timing wont be accurate at all? what can i do
thanks guys

With the motor at running temp and at a normal idle set the timing to about 14 degrees , this is what it is without the connectors shorted .

no one knows who did the conversion. is it accurate to adjust the timing without bypassing the terminals?
I noticed when i adjusted the timing to around 16deg BTDC and i revved the timing would change to 5deg the other side of zero
cheers

hmmmm..
sorry dude, i also have a question about timing, so i thought i'd ask in your post, hope you dont mind maybe both of us can get help.
ive got a bigport tvis 4ag and i cant even FIND the timing pulley. i was digging around under the bonnet with a timing light, until i nearly got an epileptic fit and i still couldnt find it.
so i ended up half-assedly advancing the timing straight off the dizzy, a few degrees at a time and taking it for a spin. when it started pinging i retarded it a few degrees and thats where its at at the mo..
could someone tell me whether this is ok? i cant hear it ping, but could it still be doing damage to the motor? and also, where exactly is the goddamn timing pulley anyway? it was sooooo easy to find on my old 4ac

have a look at the bottom where the crank protrudes at the front of the motor.
there is a pulley on that
on the plastic casing that goes around it, there is a series of timing marks on it.
on the very inside of the harmonic balancer (thats the thing attached to the front of the crank) there will be a little notch cutout in the balancer. this indicates your timing reference. point the timing light down there and you should see a line "line up" with the numbers on the cambelt covers.
hope this helps.

quite often when "rewiring" is done, the check connector is left out. this is a pain, but not a major issue - you will have to short out t1 & whatever the other pin is (which escapes me right now) at the ecu to set the timing correctly - which according to the manual is at 10 deg i think.

i know exactly where my ecu is, but which points do i short out? it doesnt state where the E and T1 terminals are.

take the cover off the ecu - it will be stamped on the circuit board inside
